No sound over hdmi
Updated the dock to latest firmware update and after working through some image issues I finally got it to show up on my TV correctly via hdmi, but there is no sound. In settings I have Auto selected for audio output, but selecting external device does not work either. "Speakers" option does output sound from the deck's speakers. HDMI is connected directly from dock to the TV. I've tried unplugging the dock's power and plugging it back in after a short wait, rebooting the deck and tv, and a new hdmi cable but still having the same issue. TV is a vizio p55-f1, have not tried with other tvs yet. Anybody else running into this or solved it?

I have no sound or video... :(

My generic dock was working 2 days ago but now my tv isn't being listed for a sound device and I can't figure it out. Usually the tv becomes "Speakers" volume but all sounds come from the Steam Deck now. Tried both beta and stable branches both in desktop mode.

What fixed video for me was keeping the deck plugged into dock, but unplugging the dock from power. The picture kicked on and then plugging in the power after didn't mess it up anymore. Although now I'm running into flashing black screen every minute or so.

I lost audio after the latest firmware update for the dock. Tried the last tip, where I unplugged the deck, booted into the desktop, checked for updates, then booted back, put it into the dock and the sound works!

No sound for me. Hope a firmware update fixes it!

Thanks I'll give it a try.

Tried it sadly it did not work. It always plays from the decks speakers!

Go to your Steam Deck's Settings Tab and scroll down until you see audio, and there should be a toggle to change it from Speakers to HDMI.

Hope that gets it done for you.
Best of luck
Peace

Did that and it's now working, many thanks👍

With official dock plugged into my home theater setup via HDMI audio works on the menus fine.. but after I launch a game (I’ve tried Ori and Tomb Raider) I get no audio… and when I exit the games, audio is broken (no sound in Steam) until I reboot 😞. Seems like both a firmware *and* a Proton problem may exist.. sucks because was really looking forward to playing docked on a big screen..

I have a similar problem, but a little different. No HDMI audio but in desktop mode I have multiple Rembrant Radeon High Definition Audio Devices. Rembrant Radeon High Definition Audio Device 8 is the correct one, I would guess in non desktop mode it must be using one of the others. I don't know how to tidy up / remove what I assume are duplicates

the best workaround I found is while docked with HDMI connected switch to desktop mode and configure audio output; you will see a HDMI option there

make sure the radio button next to the HDMI option is selected... next time I noticed that when docked the steamdeck passes audio to HDMI as expected :) . In addition to this with emulated games (e.g. cemu) the emulator might have an audio setting for a TV setup , in the TV section select HDMI output

I recently got a skull n co, dock, and I’m also having issues with no sound coming out of the TV, I don’t see HDMI option in desktop mode, just the Radeon but none of the versions work, any help appreciated

Been A GADDAAMM YEARR with this issue. Is there really no fix??

Same here. Sound comes out of the deck rather than via HDMI when connectes to a TV, independent of the settings in Gaming Mode (Speaker, External, Auto etc.). Will try to change the setting in desktop mode as suggested to see whether it helps in Gaming Mode.

SOLVED::

I was researching AMD GPU issues, turns out there was a BIOS update that occurred sometime in 2022 that seems to have disabled the "high definition audio controller".

This device can be found in the device manager under system devices. Mine was disabled, a simple click on enable from the right click Drop down menu immediately fixed it.

If yours is enabled, and has a yellow warning exclamation point Next to it, right click uninstall, scan for hardware changes.

It should repopulate and work.

🤘
