Cannot update the dock firmware.
Once I connect the dock to the deck, there was an update notification showed up, I clicked apply the update, but it always failed to update, and show error as dock has been disconneted. Have tried to restart and reconnect many times, but the same issue still persist.

A friend slightly elevated his deck in the dock (how it sat) and theirs started to update. Not sure what the true root of the issue is, however it seems to me that connections may not be maintaining full contact. GL

Also solved my issue, flipping over the USB-C into the dock was the trick needed.

Had the same issue, Dock was bricked. Prompt on the Lock-Screen messed everything up.

My solution:
- Unplug everything (Controller, Power, Monitor/TV) from the dock and the Deck.
- Turn of the Deck. Wait.
- Plug in only USB-C Dock to the Deck (no power, no monitor).
- Start the Deck. Skip the prompt on the Lock-Screen and login normally. Now follow the instructions to update the dock.

- Should work this time, at least worked for me.

- After this you can reconnect all the other stuff.

That solved it for me! THANK YOU

TL;DR:
If the firmware update appears hung/frozen leave it for 30+ minutes without doing anything. It might still be running in the background.

Story time:
Like you all I made the mistake of selecting update the dock firmware at the lock screen. Dock was plugged into the adapter shipped with it. Deck at probably 90% battery. USB mouse, keyboard, and display port connected.

The screen froze/hung at displaying "verifying installation".

I let it go for probably 30 minutes. no change.

unplugged the dock and the same screen was displayed on the deck itself. Great. Held the power button to force shut it down. powered the deck up to verify it was ok. The Steam Deck itself seems fine.

Logged into gaming mode. Plugged the dock in with nothing else plugged into it - nothing popped up on screen.

shut down the steam deck. plugged in the dock. Plugged in power. plugged in mouse/keyboard/display. booted the deck. Boom greeted by the pin screen for gaming mode. Everything working!

Just got the deck dock in today, and I'm at a loss. It's still a really new product but am frustrated since none of the fixes everyone's posted aren't working.

Disconnected everything. Nothing is plugged into the dock. Turn deck on, whether waking from sleep, a restart, or a shut down, each time I plug the dock into the deck I get the notif for the firmware update. Proceed in the prompts but when it enters the loading screen, the deck doesn't even try to update the firmware and keeps saying it's cancelled. I've left the dock and deck alone to possibly update on their own, tried flipping the connector, I don't even have a lock screen and no dice. Am I going crazy or something?

This solution worked for me.

Current Dock FW ver. 0.13.15.106

Apparently, the fw update was started the first time i asked it to. The dialogue never closed tho. I tried to "skip" like ten times, observing the screen flashing, then it let me enter the PIN. I unplugged the dock and saw the message that the dock fw update had failed to install. After a Reboot, using the dock again, the presented Firmware Version is 0.13.15.106 . Thus, the popup message and update status were messed up.

Last i checked, the usb-c connector was not plugged in completely. That was my fault, but Steam Deck still asked to install the dock update that way and the popup had messed up the login procedure. Thats very dangerous, to be able to kill the dock this way...

I had exactly this issue, but after a bit of headache managed to fix this by unplugging the dock from the mains power when I updated the deck. After the update, plugged everything back in and worked like a charm.

UPDATE:
Without any type of messages or warning or something else, my deck start an update and after restart I've discovered in system info's my new firmware version of dock....
i'm a little bit confused about that, anyway now the dock it's updated but i'm not sure the deck system it's stable again...for example my decky loader it's disappeared, i've downloaded again but no way to find in "... menu" (3 dots button).
Also the "... menu" when launched on my hdmi monitor gave me only a blanky screen and don't appear....tried the deck unplugged from dock and again the decky icon didn't appear.
I think the dock firmware it's bugged
(sorry for the typos :-) )

Lol flipping the usb c worked for me wtf. That's so silly, completely defeats the purpose of usb c

I tried all the recommendations, but the update won’t show up again after the whole dock disconnected thing. Also the firmware is 0.13.15.106 as stated on the settings, but the dock doesn’t display anything to my TV or other TV’s in the house. So yeah I don’t even know if it really updated successfully, as prior to the whole disconnect issue the update won’t re-run again.

Same issues. I turned the deck off and unplugged everything. Turned deck on, logged in, then connected only the dock to the deck. Then it successfully updated. Video out is working now.
