Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Picture not showing on tv
Out of the box, I was able to use the official dock. However, after putting the Deck to sleep and waking it, the dock would no longer send a signal to my Sony TV. I have tried restarting the deck, using different hdmi cables and ports. When in the desktop mode, the tv recognized, but no matter what I do, the picture and sound don't show up and the tv reports no signal.

You need to connect the Steam Deck to an external display for that option to appear afaik. It's on "Settings>Display"

I'm having the same issue. I was able to play vampire survivors as a test. Once.

24 hours of testing, 15 minutes of it actually working in total. I knew, I just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ KNEW when I turned it off that when I came back it would be broken again.... YUUP! Piece of ♥♥♥♥ again won't register the hdmi port. Who ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares if you can fiddle with this for hours and get it to work if it's just gonna fail again once i put it to sleep mode.

This is honestly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pathetic, Valve. 95 dollars for a dock that works far worse than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 20 dollar one from China I got on Amazon. Seriously, what the ♥♥♥♥ Valve.

me too.. have a cheap, but brand new, hisense A65H.. the Rasberry Pi 3B gets instantly recognized.. hdmi from the steam deck dock.. nope. I even unplugged the HDMI cable from, teh Pi to use that in the Dock over teh same input.. no go.

I have not seen the external display option in Steam Deck menus yet. WHen I have it plugged into the dock with teh HDMI connected it "thinks" it should output externally.. so I cannot even see the menus when it is plugged in with HDMI connected. When I unplufg the HDMi cable from teh dock but leave the Deck plugged into he Dock I can see menus on the Dech's screen.. but have not noticed any option for external display.

Is there a helper tutorial somewhere on this issue?

Makes em wonder if this was why the dock was delayed.. I figured it was "supply chain issues".. maybe its bugs but they said, WTF, Ship it.

Was able to get the deck displaying on the TV after just power cycling it multiple times....... aaaannnddd now none my games work.... I press start and it just sits in an endless steam logo loading loop. All my installed games are doing this now.

Thanks valve, your dock barely works, and when it does, it breaks the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ console todo so.

Again:

what. A. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Joke.

SOLUTION from my issues with the steam dock:

1) Unplug the usb-c and the deck showed up on my TV
2) Went into settings and turned off automatic resolution (set to 1080p and the screen stopped flickering)
3) plug usb-c back in and the deck became usable

**to note: I'm not certain if there's a possible audio latency in the menu areas but that audio latency doesn't exist in games**

Hope this was helpful to someone!
This worked for me! I had the deck docked and connected to my TV via HDMI, unplugged the power, and the image was restored. From there, I plugged the power back in and the signal remained working.

I’m really confused as to what is causing this. I received my dock today and it was initially working before it started having the same problem as everyone else has been happening in this thread. I checked the HDMI connection with a different dock (my Apple dongle that I use for my iPad lol) and it works, so it’s definitely the official dock that’s having the problem. I’m honestly really disappointed. I was waiting specifically for the official dock and it’s a shame to see it shipped in this state.

I’m hoping that this is just a firmware issue and that they’ll be able to patch this, because this workaround makes me feel like I’m using some sort of shady, third party piece of crap. Would love it if Valve addressed this. Probably going to reach out to their customer support concerning this issue because I’m less than thrilled.

Same here, Sony Bravia OLED 4K TV worked for a few minutes while on desktop mode but when I switched back to game mode it no longer worked. I tried all of the various settings for HDMI and inputs. I've tried all four ports and tried at least three different HDMI cables. Powered cycle the steam deck and it popped up on my TV for a second then went black. Also having the same issue with a Samsung q80 TV but that TV won't recognize it at all. No matter what setting, port, cable I use, it just does not recognize any feed coming in the inputs. Dock about 4 days ago and I've already performed the dock from where. It does work perfectly with a display port on my BenQ 4K monitor. Hopefully they'll be a new update released soon to fix this since I planned on using it on a large 4K TV, not a gaming monitor.

According to support:

Hello,

We appreciate your feedback regarding the issue with the dock. We have some suggestions to help remedy what you're experiencing with the device.

Please attempt re-imaging your Steam Deck using the instructions available here.

Let us know the results and we'll assist further.

Best Regards,
Patrick

I'm not re-imaging my deck as an attempt to fix a dock issue, returning mine, this is not acceptable for a $100 dock.

Same problem here Samsung TV. WTF Valve?!

I had the same problem and had to put it on a different tv, then turned off the automatic set resolution option, it then worked with my main tv. Still not able to use on the av amp though.

I know support has to send out generic rubbish answers, but the devs need to get their act together and fix the underlying problem.

Dude! That worked for me! Thanks a lot

It worked for me too.. something worked via connecting/reconnecting.. changing various settings. Thanks a lot. The posts about this method gave me hope to try and try again.

I think I might have found a fix for this. I went into desktop mode after an hour of trying to get this working on numerous monitors and TV's I have. Once in Desktop mode there was a ton of updates appeared. Since I've downloaded them my Steam Docking Station automatically connects to my monitor. Hope this helps everyone. Let me know if it works

I’m having issues too :/ how do we report to valve? I’m completely new to steam and a friend of mine convinced me to get the deck and I love it to death. But now I got the deck and I’ve been dying to finally play on my big screen. I feel I may have messed up the update because my deck completely froze and I had to hard reset since I got no reaction…. Idk what to do. I

Dock updated, works fine by HDMI on an old LG monitor. DP or HDMI doesn't work on a Lenovo monitor. On a LG TV worked once on HDMI after turning off Deep Colour, but then nothing even if TV was reset, dock reset etc.
In some cases the Deck didn't detect the screens at all but in most cases it did (screen when blank) but the screen didn't (No signal)

The working LG Monitor is 720p, Lenovo Monitor is 3440x1440 and TV is 4K

I have a Philips Android TV and I managed to get the dock working by going to general settings -> HDMI Ultra HD and setting it to Optimized.
To do this you have to connect the Deck first and then go the source, so the menu will be enabled in the settings. After setting it I had to disconnect the dock from the Deck and then connect it again and everything worked
