Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Picture not showing on tv
Out of the box, I was able to use the official dock. However, after putting the Deck to sleep and waking it, the dock would no longer send a signal to my Sony TV. I have tried restarting the deck, using different hdmi cables and ports. When in the desktop mode, the tv recognized, but no matter what I do, the picture and sound don't show up and the tv reports no signal.

LG UJ630V no Signal :(
Needing to unplug the dock every time I use it is... honestly stupid, and nothing else in this thread works. At this rate I'll go back to using a HDMI to USB-C cable straight into the dock because at least that worked.

After a couple of months of trying out various things from this thread and almost ordering an EDID pass through adaptor (Which cost another £20 on top of what I paid for the official steam dock >D ), I discovered that you can set the steam dock to display externally in safe mode, which finally allowed my *official steam dock* to display on my Samsung TV.

Hopefully this helps others too.
1. Boot steam deck in gaming mode undocked.
2. Enable developer mode by pressing Steam button > Settings > System > Enable Developer Mode (Might need to scroll down).
3. Enable External display safe mode, Press Steam button > System > Developer (scroll down) > External display safe mode.
4. Plug in the dock.

At this point my Samsung TV finally displayed the steam deck output at a very low resolution. If this works for you, then I discovered you can now set the resolution to auto and it should work properly.

5. Enable auto resolution, Press Steam button > System > Display > Automatically set resolution.

After this step the display flashed again and displayed the output properly.

I restarted my deck both with the dock plugged in and unplugged and the display seems to be working still.

Tried all of this (and everything else in this post) and doesn't work for me... Like previously posted, the only thing that works is unplugging power and plugging it in again. Last few times it when I plug it back in while a game is running it even shows a popup message stating that my charcher (yes the original one that comes with the dock) is not powerfull enough...

I think I'm also going for a warranty replacement like others in this post
What gets me is the EDID pass-through adapter works, so that points to a failure on the dock or deck display EDID table. And if a new dock just works then why doesn't Valve speak up about this issue?

Same issue here. LG 49UJ635V-ZF. black screen with no signal
did you manage to make it work?
I have a similar TV and the dock doesn't work
Just adding my results to this list. I was running fine with my Steam Deck Dock today which I've had since they launched. Did the firmware update it requested after playing on the TV for a couple of hours. After updating the firmware I can no longer connect to my LG C7 from 2018. I put in a support request to see what happens. I found this thread after.
[UPDATE] For me following the instructions of unplugging the dock and plugging it back in to finish the firmware update did resolve my issues.

I tried my work monitor and my tv at my house with no luck for any display. Kinda huge bummer to pay so much for this to not have it work when i could of easily gotten the cheap generics.

When i get home ill try switching all my cords and seeing if that fixes it along with using a "gaming" monitor. I just got the dock a few days ago so i dont know if a recent update has caused this
Anybody know if the official dock works on a LG C1 OLED?
I did the firmware update on the dock today and still have the same problem of not being able to get a picture without disconnecting power to the dock, attaching Deck to Dock, waiting for a picture, then reconnecting power to Dock. Seems pretty stupid to me to have to finagle like this
So is there a solution or not????

It worked fine yesterday, today it doesnt. I literally chanzed nothing. What did I pay 100€ for????

I received the HDMI EDID today, and it did the trick. So, for now, this is the only solution I've ever tried that works. Thanks!

This might not be true for everyone, but:

I was getting a blank screen, but then I figured maybe it's just too low of a resolution for my tv, to fix it I had to reload into desktop mode without the monitor plugged in, hold windows-key and press P and select extend desktop option. then I plugged in the monitor, still showing black, and my deck still had view of the desktop.
lastly I opened up the display settings and selected the external monitor, selected 1920x1080 60hz for it, and it popped up after hitting apply, then I pressed okay on the warning.

From then on -> my monitor works in both modes. I just can't use lower than 1080p in game settings.
Had this happen yet again, and fixed it the same way, it was going to some other default resolution which my monitor didn't support. if your steamdeck is not visible when your tv is failing to show the content... I seriously suggest going to desktop mode and use multiple screens in the display settings before plugging into the dock. if you have a keyboard hooked up, holding windows key and tapping P might trigger the monitor source modes too... idk, EDID and other stuff sounds to me like different stuff is going on, but I'm surprised for how often I've run into this issue that others aren't reporting similar solutions.
