Buying without extra charger?
What's the logic behind selling an extra charger with the official Docking Station if it's the exact same one that already comes with the Steam Deck?

What if I only want to buy the Docking Station?

I'd go for the Dock instantly if it was 70€ or so without the charger. I'm sure plenty of people who wanted/needed extra charger got one in the year or so in-between the release of the Deck and the Dock. There really should be a bundle without the charger.

Better to have with/without charger purchase option. If it came without one by default the forums would be flooded with tears about it.

I totally agree with you and would have already ordered if that option was available.

I would have bought one too if it wasn't with an extra power adapter. I already got 2...

+1. The stock charger from Steam Deck isn't very useful to begin with (non-detachable, short cable). I have a hard time convincing myself to buy another one which has the same limitation and therefore useless to me.

Think of it this way, you setup the dock in one place without needing to move the charger, the charger that comes with your deck is for portabiliy, imagine having to unplug and replug the charger to go portable just to plug it back into the dock which you are most likely keeping in one place.

didnt think about this TBH, i still dont know if i want to buy a spare myself since i dont really have uses for a spare

I hear you. The big issue is that a lot of people, myself included, have bought another adapter with detachable lead.

In my case, I want a charger for my dock behind the TV, and one up in the upstairs home office behind the desk. I can then connect my dock to either. I then have my detachable lead 3rd party PSU for portable, undocked use.

Fine for me, but if I didn't want the full desk/lounge/handheld combo I'd now have too many PSUs and less cash than I ought. Valve should consider this, as it can't be a tiny market.

Best advice for now is to go 3rd party.

The dock's not supposed to go anywhere, that's the idea of its own charger so the one bundled with the Deck stays with it when mobile. If you're moving the dock around a bunch you're doing it wrong.

I'm not sure you're right about that. It's been designed specifically to work in both powered and unpowered modes, as per the official faq. It's designed to be as compact as possible whilst providing a decent stand according to the marketing, so to be as portable as possible. The extra PSU is there to leave in situ, granted (though hardly the only way to use it), but as the PSU isn't even required to use the dock I don't see it as a necessary tether to one location.

you'll need it. got the dock as IU was using a 3rd part usb-c hub with an hdmi out that had usb c passthrough. plugged the steam dock adapter into the dongle, then usb on top of the dock and BAM no not enough power warning. Now with the official dock, I have to use mini hdmi to hdmi and lost the 2nd input of the portable monitor.

I decided to make the investment I have like 260 games. I figured mine as well. Have the deck as far as the chargers concerned I think is fine with what it comes with now in the future if I need an extra one, I’ll buy one. I think it’s great that will be able to Have access to so many games in my case almost 300 right at your hands and then you can stick it in your pocket when you’re done what a revelation to all God loves you.
