According to the website, the USB-C port is PD with passthrough only:
"USB-C power delivery passthrough input"
So you appear to be out of luck with that.
That does work and I have tried it. However, the montior drains the battery of the deck significantly.
Can you confirm that USB 3.1 Gen 1 supports display? At what resolution? What power can it deliver? I agree it is not rocket science, however I'm not trying to spend 80 dollars if this particular dock can't do what I need it to.
I'm in the same boat trying to get my ASUS MB16AC portable monitor ( https://www.asus.com/ca-en/displays-desktops/monitors/zenscreen/zenscreen-mb16ac/ ) working with the SD (Steam Deck). The portable monitor has a single USB-C port and the SD has a single USB-C port.
1) direct connection between SD and the monitor using a USB-C cable (both ends) works however this drain the SD's battery, same issue as what the OP reported in this thread.
2) connecting the monitor via the official SD docking station (and a third party docking station) using either the HDMI, DP, or USB-A ports would display the following message:
"Your device does not support DP Alt Mode, please install the latest driver and try again."
3) tried the Anker USB C Charger (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0BDKB4W7N) and still getting the same message as #2.
Which adapter/cable do we need to ensure PD to SD and allow video transmission to the portable monitor? Do we need to install driver on the SD in order to support DP Alt Mode?
Thanks,
Devin
This is literally my exact same issue. I hope someone could provide some insight!
THink i have an answer though... get an HDMI dock and use this.. ? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B5XBYQSM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3HKSDB7SVSEC4&psc=1
Otherwise, a lot of the DP to USB-C cables are bi-directional so a DP dock should do it.
