PSP "Shift key" style input?
Hands up if you remember this from a MUCK/MUSH/MUD client from back in the PSP homebrew days.

Basically some clever cloggs reasoned that since using the XMB keyboard was slow in made sense to make an entirely new system to input characters, this system was pure genius and used only the PSP thumb stick, face buttons, and triggers.

If you've ever seen Japanese style "flick" text input you'll know where this is going.

The thumbstick was used to "shift" between 5 blocks of 4 characters mapped to the face buttons.
The triggers acted as shift registers to move between an additiotal 3 (L, R L+R) set of 5 blocks of 4 characters.
Select was possibly used as a caps lock key, or space bar. I don't remember but I'd ttink it was the former.

4 x 5 x 4 = 80 characters, possibly 160 with select. it worked great and honestly I think it would be worth giving another shot.

Thoughts? (Also, if you remember that client let me know.)

Sounds like the old "Daisy Wheel" keyboard Big Picture Mode had in its really early days.

Not very useful if you write in more than one language.
In my opinion, the virtual keyboard + trackpads is faster and you can switch words on the "fly".

Oh hello again Hiro... did you ever actually use this keyboard? Because if you know the homebrew it came with I wanna know. =D

I just wish they would reintroduce the on-screen keyboard configuration option with predictive text suggestions. The new keyboard seems like a step backwards and it doesn't look like they're going to implement anything new.
