[Steam Input] Add mode/guide/happy button for non-steam games
Hello,

as it currently stands, if I wanna add a non-steam game such as a ps3 game with rpcs3, I will face the issue of not being able to use the 'PS' button since Steam Input doesn't account for such a button. Disabling Steam Input by going into desktop mode and closing steam actually solves this since the steam button is now recognized as 'mode', three dots button as 'Base' and the 4 buttons on the back as 'Happy', 'Happy 2', 'Happy 3', and 'Happy 4'.

All of the above work fine as mappings for the emulator and yet steam input doesn't give the option to map any button to said values so I can launch the games while in game mode as non-steam games.

Obviously steam and three dots buttons have their own function while in game mode, but I don't see any reason at to why I should not be able to map any of the 4 spare back buttons to said values.

Thanks in advance,
Fotis

This is more of a user error or RPCS3 problem than it is a Steam Input problem. You should be able to bind the Playstation Home button to something else within RPCS3. It doesn’t make sense to alter the functionality of the Steam and ••• buttons as they are extremely important and have a bunch of weird macros and hotkeys associated with them.

Absolutely, I am not advocating for altering those, I am advocating for adding an extra mapping in the gamepad mode so that I can map any of the 4 back buttons to it.

Sorry it took so long for a response, I did not get any notification.

Also if you can find any mapping for the back buttons of the ones offered by steam, which is recognized by RPCS3 in the gamepad config(not the keyboard one), I am here waiting for the pointer!

I’ve not used RPCS3, since I don’t emulate PS3 games. But if someone else has a solution hopefully the bump will make the thread more visible to them.

Only thing I managed to do to "fix" this was instead use a keyboard input in steam input and use the keyboard config in the emulator. But this resulted in a rather poor joystick experience .

I assure you I am almost certain there ain't no way to circumvent this, one solution would be to disable steam input completely and let the emulator handle the steamdeck's hardware controls on its own(which it does perfectly), but there ain't no reliable easy way to disable steam input for a game.

You also really don't want that since the steam and three dots button would stop working, thus this feature request.
