Steam Deck

CUSTOM Steam Deck
A nice idea on Valve's part would be to introduce custom steam decks to the market in terms of appearance, e.g. green, red, etc.

They do not have to be all colored, but only actuating elements such as buttons and analogues can be included.

They should fix their product first and get it to a stable state with minimal regressions before trying to push superfluous features like this.

Can you expand the topic? I would like to buy a steam deck but I don't know what's wrong with it

For starters, there’s this

Pushing a BIOS update that softbricks some people’s devices.

Updating is mandatory but you have roughly 2 or 3 update channels you can hop around in. They are misnomered as Stable, Beta, and Prerelease. “Stable” is not stable and is simply the channel that releases last. I haven’t ever seen a bug Valve pulled or delayed the Stable updates for. So it’s just a train with 3 cars you can hop between if you don’t like which car you’re on.

My personal biggest gripe with the device is Steam Input, which is riddled with bugs that range from annoying to infuriating. The biggest of which are the bugs that prevent you from saving your configs. The Steam Deck is a device that runs entirely on Steam Input.

I love my Steam Deck don’t get me wrong, but it is annoying to use compared to a Nintendo Switch which is a plug and play experience. I don’t need to fight with that device to use it like I do my Steam Deck sometimes.

Hmm I understand. Switch is a console. Steam deck is a PC/console. So unfortunately, as a PC has its flaws PC. I just bought my steam deck OLED 512gb, I will test it and we will see how it will play. If it is indeed weak, I will return it and wait for better equipment from valve

Steam isn’t weak per se unless you’re expecting to play the most recent AAA games without compromise. I BEAT Returnal on my Steam Deck, but that was with heavy graphical compromises that involved tweaking the engine.ini of the game.

Really the main weakness of the deck is how much and how often you need to tweak things. Steam Input is a horrible interface with too many nested menus. Decky plugin loader is necessary but needs reinstalled after every few updates. Cryoutilities helps performance but updates undo some of its changes, etc. etc. If you hate tinkering with stuff it will limit what you can do with the Steamdeck. Even if you’re total dudebro you can still play a lot of stuff on the Steam Deck, but you can play significantly more things if you know and understand what you’re doing.
