Anti-Aliasing options.
Some games have terrible inbuilt antialiasing options. In my case Dark Souls 3, NFS HP, etc has some really bad jaggies and is incredibly grainy no matter what the configuration, supersampling/upscaling or using FSR.

Anti aliasing options at the driver level like NVDIA Control panel would help or similar post-processing options to help certain titles on the 800p display (which can exacerbate aliasing.)

Is a big thing for me and would help bring the device up to a higher level cause the jags are the biggest downside to the device.

Try running games with higher resolution than display.
Under game Properties is option. It may be hidden but go back and forth and it appears.
Set resolution for Internal and external display. Toggle ON.
Set max resolution. Open game and now you have same max resolution available.
For example I use 2048 x 1152 on GTA4

gamescope still doesn't support proper supersampling, and it doesn't look better than native resolution.

This trick works and makes games look better.
Battery and performance takes hit of course.
And when docked there is no worry about battery.

Ive been doing that for some games but it has diminishing returns for me, Dark Souls 3 for example takes a big performance hit and you still get some grain. Definitely better tho, when plugged in. But yeah Ive found some games just have it better or worse, would be cool to see driver level antialiasing options i think for best of both worlds.
The default TAA in Fallout 4 for example looks great and I’ve never seen any jags. Older titles you can just do really high default antialiasing (or supersampling as you mentioned) without worrying about performance. But then you get some games without any options or newer ones that have big performance costs and your options get really limited.
