Possibility to skip an update & Don´t force me to go online for start a new game
I was in holiday, and want to start Formula one. Before i set my Steam Deck into the offline mode.

I tried my favorite game Calisto Protocol, before starting the holiday, so it worked to play with this game offline.

But while the holiday, i want to play F1 22, what i did for longer time not before

1st Problem: Steam Deck complained, i have to go online to play it offline.
Ok, i did this with my mobile phones hotspot

2nd Problem: Now he said, F1 need an update of 1GB, and i can´t skip it.
So it was unplayable for me, because i had just limited bandwidth and datas, and no chance to download it.

This needs to be a feature for regular steam as well. Forcing updates on people is silly. We can modify games just fine but if we want to actually avoid them being ruined by updates we have to crack them. Gabe himself said piracy comes from service issues and Steam has lots of them now, especially when you compare the freedom of drm free platforms that people can also sell games from.

Updates are pushed by the dev into the main branch.

The online check is part of Steam DRM and to make sure it doesn't need any extra stuff for the game to run.

And yet despite the updates not being pushed by Valve they do nothing to stop them being shoveled down your throat, in fact they give express delivery. There is no reason for this. The end user is the one that should be able to control what is going onto their PC.

Then request the dev to put the update in a beta branch.

A big draw of Steam is seamless updating when the dev wants to do it.

There are so many reasons why it should be possible to delay updates easily. Just think of the uproar there was when Windows and Microsoft tried to force instant updates on everyone. It's not a good idea, at least not for Singleplayer games. The game devs shouldn't need to work around this either, this is a Steam issue.
