Add gnome-keyring for Minecraft Java Edition
As the title requests, would it be possible to add gnome-keyring to SteamOS for SteamDeck? The Official Minecraft launcher uses gnome-keyring to store login information. Without gnome-keyring, you have to manually login to your Microsoft account each time you open the launcher. This gets even more tedious when you have to use 2FA.

Thanks.

Thank you for this, I would like to second this request. Minecraft works FLAWLESSLY with the Steam Deck, and the very last issue that I have is having to log in every time I boot the game up. If it's possible, it would be awesome to have gnome-keyring added to the repo in some way. If anyone finds a way of getting those Minecraft passwords stored, please chime in!

I recommend looking into third party launchers. I believe MultiMC is a good alternative. You can link your Microsoft account to the launcher, thus bypassing the need for the gnome-keyring. I believe MultiMC is in the KDE store, so no terminal commands needed.

I used to use PolyMC for the awesome mod support, but there has been some controversy with the main dev recently.

I also recommend using this controller mod to add pseudo controller support. It works well enough from my testing: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/controllable

Is it on the KDE store? How do you access that? When I search in the discovery store it says MultiMC isn't there? Sorry for so many questions but I have been left in the lurch by the PolyMC security issue!

Sorry, I was referring to the discovery store. I see that the discovery store has the Prism Minecraft launcher. I would recommend going with that.

This guy made a video that basically explains how to do everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8oqFUl791Q&t=172s
The Minecraft Launcher doesn't explicitly use GNOME Keyring, but will use any keyring that implements the org.freedesktop.secrets API.

KDE has now also implemented it into KWallet (https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kwallet/-/merge_requests/11) and it was released as part of KDE Frameworks 5.97.0 (https://kde.org/announcements/frameworks/5/5.97.0/).

So, Keyring support in Desktop Mode can be fixed by updating KDE packages to newer versions. However, I'm not sure if KWallet would work in Gaming Mode as well.

Good to know! Maybe someone at Valve will see this thread and look into the issue. I still think I prefer the prism launcher because the controllable mod helps a lot for controller support.
