One per state, and the system dynamically switches between them: an external display is connected (docked), charge detected (undocked charging), no charge detected (undocked battery).
The docked profile should always preempt the other profiles regardless of charge status, but lets be real, if you are 'docking' you should also be charging; however, in the event that you aren't, performance can be sacrificed / vary, but matching the screen resolution, etc is paramount.
Would love a "charging" state to have everything unlocked 60hz, 60fps, 15watts, etc...instead of my custom profile tuned for battery (40hz, 30-40fps target, 3-5watts depend on game)
FYI to others you can temporarily disable the "Use per-game profile" option to quickly revert to default settings, so if you use individual profiles per game to optimise for battery usage and leave the default profile as full framerate, TDP etc, then you can quickly toggle back and forth between the two depending on whether charging or not.
Turning the per-game profile back on seems to remember the tweaked settings.
General profile works everywhere until "Per-Game" profile are toggled on and changed but won't reset anything, it'll just use the "General" profile.
It'll be better if we can toggle between plugged & unplugged profile without having to do it everytime for every game when switching between battery or wall outlet.

Enable perfomance overview docked, only show FPS handheld or disable
Set power limit handheld, disable docked
Disable variabel shader docked, enable handheld
Windows and linux has settings for batery and power
Why cant the deck have the same?
Why cant i have a battery saving profile then needed?
Then i want the deck to last longer
I use my Steam Deck like a Nintendo Switch. When I am at home, it is always docked, and I stream to my TV via Steam Link; however, when I am on the road, I simply unplug the Steam deck from the dock and go. It's really annoying having to turn off FSR, among other settings, when undocked and then having to turn it back on when docked.
