Option to disable trackpad click for on-screen keyboard (or remap on-screen keyboard buttons globally)
I have used the Steam Controller trackpads for typing a lot of time and their button mapping for the onscreen keyboard is excellent.

On the Steam Deck on the other hand, dual-trackpad typing is a really bad experience.

The fact that we got, in a later update, the option to enable trigger click for keyboard leads me to believe that someone at Valve wants the SC typing experience as well.

The first issue I have on the SD related to moving the finger on the trackpads is that no matter how careful I am, I always end up activating a „click” action without wanting to. Thus I type a wrong key. The option to disable this behavior globally would be #1 priority for me.

Second, when typing using the trackpads, it is really inconvenient to lift your thumb from the right trackpad to hit the X button to delete a character or the Y button to insert a SPACE character. SC has the RB and LB (bumper) keys for these actions and that is a lot better because you push them with your index finger, no need to lift the thumb finger.

This change from the SC is more frustrating when you combine it with accidentally miss-clicking the right trackpad and inserting a wrong key. Now you have to press X to delete just to go back to the right trackpad so you can miss-click it again when touching.

I would like go back to the experience I had with the Steam Controller for using the on-screen keyboard with dual-trackpad typing.

I can understand if this is not what most people experience, but then at least give me the option to map actions for the on-screen keyboard and I can make my own layout similar to how SC was working (no click on trackpad and RB for delete and LB for space).

I second this. Disable click option on track pads on the on screen keyboard

This is a must have option, I too experience a lot of accidental clicks on the touchpad, making it horrendous to type on.
I've seem to prefer using the touch screen instead which is not ideal for a wide console like the Steam Deck

Using the bumpers for space and backspace is far superior to what is currently available. I was hoping the New Big Picture was going to improve and advance the user experience, when it seems like they just painted over rust.
