One more thing that would make desktop mode way more usable is some way to scroll, but perhaps that's something for another conversation.
On Steam you can even add a derivate of ScummVM that neatly integrates to it as a 3rd-party compatibility layer and use it for supported games without messing with files yourself

ProtonUP-QT supports fetching Roberta and is available through Steam Deck's Discover Store in Desktop Mode... once Roberta is in place you can configure it for the desired games and go to Gaming Mode to play them there too
ps: the only games not fully supported are the remastered versions... they'll only run in the classic mode over ScummVM, AFAIK it's not yet able to use the remastered artwork resources correctly
