This needs more upvotes. Openvpn support would be great, because this incredible machine can be used as a desktop and on the go I think is very important to be able to protect our communications

Not only for steam but also for browser surfing.
+1
don't forget about wireshark though ;)
I've been trying to figure out how to fix the certificate error I was getting all day! Thank you for this!
Is Valve taking feedback for SteamOS in regards to the Deck? If so, where? This needs more eyes on it.

At the very least, the OVPN Plugin needs to be part of the OS out of the box.

SSL already protects your communications, its the same thing VPN's use to encrypt it, do you think things are sent in plain text on the internet these days?
Keeps asking for password every time I connect, I tried putting it in the VPN connection manager bit but it keeps forgetting it, any idea how to get it to save it?

Edit (fix): Change password setting to: Store password for all users, although it's not encrypted which is bad?

It's not always matter of protecting yourself. Having an OVPN SERVER running at home affords conveniences not just for gaming but for productivity as well. OpenVPN allows me to securely connect to my own home network and work as though I'm at home.

OVPN functionality is not some esoteric thing that is only for paranoid worry warts. The larger part of the Linux community uses it daily.
I doubt valve will add openvpn support. it's just bloat for most users. It's probably easier to ask for game mode features in normal distros than normal features in a gaming distro.

or ask someone to create a flatpack so it can be installed using discover. valve won´t add it, why would they
VPN's are useful if you're gaming on the go using free wifi.
Not only OpenVPN, but Wireguard would be nice to have too. The very low latency and smaller performance overhead of Wireguard would be great for gaming.

I doubt you can do VPNs with a flatpak.
I definitely need it for desktop mode and its just a shame valve has deliberately excluded that tiny package to hinder it
Yes please! OpenVPN protocol is used by nearly every single VPN provider. It is enough to cover nearly all VPN services. The network manager openVPN plugin is also quite small, so the footprint is tiny, and VPNs are important.
VPNs are a must traveling frequently like I do. Many hotels block some outbound ports. I'm at a holiday Inn right now and I can't play some games without a VPN.
