Steam Input - Easier Input Chords (e.g. Ctrl+___)
Example: Ctrl+V

Right now, you need to bind Ctrl to a physical input, then bind 'V' as a sub command. Perhaps this process this could be more intuitive, both when binding, as well as in the View Layout screen, where such a binding looks like "Control Key, L Key" instead of "Ctrl+L".

Thank you for your work!

I don't even think you can setup mode-shifts in the new UI. Personally, I wouldn't mind the Steam Input UI staying with the BPM one, since that was more visual and easier to work with.

Yeah, it was indeed better

Disagree on BPM input being better. It started out simpler, but they have added so much functionality it's become a bloated mess of options within options within menus within optional menus hidden behind submenus. It is also slow and buggy.

Mode shifting isn't missing, it has been superseded by action sets and layers, you don't actually need it anymore, it only continues to exist in BPM for bakcwards compatibility with older configs. Layers have all the functionality of a mode shift and then some, since they aren't restricted to specific inputs.

The new menu is much better organized, but not quite as simple looking. The old menu was deceptively simple looking, to the point all it's best functionality was obtuse and hard to find.

When you want to set a simple function like ctrl+v the old method of pushing one button and then selecting multiple keys was better, but when you have a complex set of funcitons, like a start press, a long press, a double tap, a layer change, etc, the new display is far superior to the old activator page (the menu within a menu hidden behind a submenu).

I don't think there is any middle ground here. Steam input is now far too complex to go back to a simple interactive controller diagram without continuing to hide all it's best features where you can't see them.

But they should be able to add the "multi-button" option back, and let you select ctrl, and v in the menu without closing it, and then just auto populate the sub control list appropriately.

I like the new Configurator a lot. I think Layers do everything Mode Shifts do and we're fine on that front.

Layers do not work the same way on SteamOS, your issue does not apply here.

Layers don't work the same on SteamOS as they do in Windows?

Uh oh! Have your reported this bug to Valve?

Please get a Steam Deck before posting here, it would really clean up discussion.

You are claiming that action layers behave differently based on the operating system.

If you are correct, then surely it is a bug that should be reported.
