Screenshots not detected
I have a bug where the Steam client is not detecting screenshots. I take a screenshot, of both Steam and Non-Steam games, and the notification shows that I have correctly taken a screenshot. However, upon checking the media tab, none of my screenshots are there, only the ones I have uploaded to my account previously are showing. This is happening in both gaming mode and desktop mode.

I then check the folder where the screenshots are supposed to be (.local/Steam/), to find all the screenshots are correctly in the folder as they should be. It's just that the Steam client is not detecting them at all, meaning I can't upload the screenshots to my profile.

I am also on the current beta channel, though I can't remember whether this was happening to me in the stable branch.

I have had this same issue for months now. I’m on the stable branch of steam os. Screenshots are all there, but going to the tab on my steam deck or it auto showing my shots after I close an app it gets hung on the loading animation. Desktop mode, no dice either. I have to share my screenshots to my drive via desktop mode to share them anywhere. If I’m lucky the deck will show my shots in my activity sub tab under the game i played. Ill then have to first highlight the image, then press the menu button and select share to post it on steam. If i select the image to enlarge it, it gets hung on the loading animation again.

It's happening to me too, as recent as just a moment ago with the latest Steam Deck update already being applied.

I take a LOT of screenshots as I play, then sort through faves after the session. Yet I only ever can see like maybe 4-6 after an hours long session where I've taken 50+. It's terrible, no idea how to see/review/share them.

Go into desktop mode, navigate to your screenshots folder -
“.steam/steam/userdata/[your id]/760”
there should be a file named “screenshots.vdf” delete it. Relaunch gaming mode and your shots should resync.

Would this resolve it going forward? Or would I need to do this for each game? After every session?

I appreciate the suggestion, don't get me wrong, just trying to be realistic on if this is a work-around I wanna start doing on my own vs waiting for this bug to be officially resolved.

This fixes it for all games but it could happen again in the future it’s some indexing issue that valve have to fix but it only happens rarely, I’ve done this maybe twice in a year

So last night I signed into my Steam Deck to follow your steps and BAM I could already see them all again! They seem to have fixed the issue, at least for me?

But if it doesn't persist, I'll follow your advice. Cheers!

Thanks! I need to use to fix the problem and now my screenshots appear in my library.

Thank you for your solution. I started having this issue recently on my deck and your solution fixed, but i'm having to do this every time i take new screenshots, because the issue keeps coming back. So i wonder if there is some "permanent" way to fix this, bc i'm not happy doing this every time :(

It started again for me. It's so weird, it comes and goes. Even if I make zero changes.

Really frustrating that this is still happening 9 months later. The fix is easy enough, but it can't be applied while IN a game, which for something like Blue Prince (where you absolutely want to reference screenshots frequently, and will have absolute piles of them; but you also can't save and exit without ending the run) is a real problem.

Yes it’s not a perfect fix

Same for me, sometimes all of them are there but most of the times I can only see cloud upload ones + handful of the recents
