Shortcuts do not work on external controllers
Edit:
It seems that the controls do work, but they are all horribly mismapped, and mapped to different things for different people. They should closely resemble the internal shortcuts. Also, the shortcut overlay when you hold down the Steam or Xbox button still looks laughably broken... This is how it used to look, and should look: https://imgur.com/a/YDCemv2

ISSUE
When using an external controller (I tested with Xbox) most of the shortcuts do not work. I cannot pull up the keyboard, take a screenshot, or use the magnifier.

STEPS
- Connect an external controller, I’ll use Xbox for this example.
- Press Xbox + RB to take a screenshot. Nothing happens.
- Press Xbox + LB for the magnifier. Nothing happens.
- Press Xbox + X for the on screen keyboard. The Steam menu comes up??

EXPECTED
The shortcuts behave the same way as the internal ones, and function properly.

Why does every client update seem to break something? Feel like I need to go back to blocking updates for stability purposes.

Please comment if you have this issue as well or any other insight to share!

I have a similar issue. In my case, I think what's happening is, steam deck is trying to import my "chord guide button" profile from my computer. I noticed one time that when I held the three dots on the deck to get the shortcut list, it was showing my chord button commands. For example, I have Playstation Buttion + X as Windows Button and G, so that I can open game bar. This was the button combo that was showing on steam deck for that combination with a controller. In short, I think the steam deck has not been configured to DISABLE guide button chord profiles when using controllers on steam deck, meaning that the steam deck SteamOS shortcuts (which must actually just be guide button chords) are not working. I think there should be absolutely no crossover between the two, because they're mutually exclusive.

I have the same issue, i cannot use XBOX + A to open the quick access menu, instead that combo takes a screenshot...

So strange! For me, Xbox + A opens the quick access menu, and Xbox + Window Switcher opens the keyboard, and Xbox + RT takes a screenshot! What the heck? Need to find the root cause of this...

I have a similar issue with controllers on Steam Deck:

I was able to fix it on PC by editing the Guide Button Chord Layout in controller settings. If you're a PC user def try that, worked for me.

Unfortunately, haven't found a fix for Steam Deck tho, as that setting isn't available on Deck.

I really hope Valve is working on this!

I had a similar issue. The only way was to edit the button chords on a pc. They then get synced to the stream deck.

There should either be no crossover or even better a way to change them on the steam deck.

I am also having a similar issue, in my case the Turn Off Controller chord does not function. Changing or resetting my button chord config on PC does not seem to help.

How does the pc guide button chord sync? I edit the guide buttons on the pc client. But nothing happens on the deck.

Also I don't see how steam can know what controers are connected to both the pc and the deck. I may be a mega newb here but I am in way over my head.

Uodate: Nevermind, I now understand it's a universal setting for the guide button layout, for the account. I do wish that valve made this clearer and more straightforward.
