Bluetooth toggle in modal settings menu not being respected with latest update
love that the devices were added underneath the bluetooth toggle switch in the "..." modal device settings pane. don't love quite as much that now, as a result, it appears that, even when the toggle is set to off, the steam deck's bluetooth is active and automatically connecting to the very device(s) for which i initially used the toggle to prevent. once you can get the new devices feature working though the toggle will become vastly more useful, so looking forward to it.

i'm on the original steam deck (non oled) at version 3.5.19 with variant labelled "steamdeck". thank you for your time!

indeed, that is the case in which i first noticed it occurring.

i'm not sure, i don't think the "..." modal pane exists in desktop mode though. do you mean more generally as to whether the displayed bluetooth enable/disable setting on desktop mode meshes with what the device actually does?

i tried to check that possibility, and it went thusly: i woke the device from sleep in handheld mode; despite the bluetooth toggle being set to off in the "..." modal, my bluetooth headphones automatically connected. i then went to power -> switch to desktop. at this point, the headphones disconnected. checking the settings app in desktop mode, the bluetooth was reported as disabled, and indeed my headphones had disconnected when i switched to desktop mode.

one feature that would be nice that would somewhat "solve" this bug would be a per bluetooth device setting as to whether you want the steam deck to try and connect automatically or whether it should require manual connection.

i was surprised to see no fix in the changelog for the release today, and indeed i can confirm this is still an issue on version 3.5.19 build 20240422.1

You instead go to the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar in Desktop Mode and connect and disconnect from Bluetooth from there.

Same.

Software version:
Beta channel, OS version 3.5.19, build 20240422.1, kernel version 6.1.52-valve16-1-neptune-61, BIOS version F7A0120, Steam client version 1718904662

To reproduce:
Turn on the headphone, disable Bluetooth on Steam Deck, put Deck into sleep mode, wake back up, the headphone will automatically connect to it.

Also occasionally there are problems when it automatically connects my headphone after waking up from sleep mode. Sometimes the audio quality can be really bad with weird static noise.

What's more about two days ago I had a system crash trying to reconnect my headphone. After wanking my Steam Deck up the headphone automatically connected. But there was no sound at all (including both game and menu). I plugged a wired headphone in and there was only white noise. So I tried to disable Bluetooth in the menu. When I clicked on the toggle switch the screen turned black and about 20 seconds later it automatically rebooted.

So I tried to prevent this issue by switching to desktop mode, and turning off Bluetooth there. Which prevents connecting to devices on start-up.

It does cause a new problem though: you can't connect to any Bluetooth device anymore. Even when toggling Bluetooth on manually in deck mode. You need to go back into desktop mode, turn it on again there, and then it reverts to the old behaviour described above.

Did you try a factory reset or re-imaging the Steam Deck?

I did not, but that sounds extreme for what should be a simple software fix.

I'm also experiencing this issue. No need to try turning off Bluetooth in Desktop Mode, since I already know that I experience this issue.

Also having these problems of today. Very inconvenient. When my wife is using my headphones and I turn on the Deck, she suddenly hears shooty sounds instead of music. Please fix this!

I sort of fixed it by moving to the beta branch. At least the toggle works, but auto-connect is completely disabled.
