Lag spike on mouse click in MMO type games
I noticed after a recent update there is a lag spike in World of Warcraft games everytime when you use right click to move the camera or just left clicking.
It is currently bound to right stick touch, but it also happens on other right mouse click buttons.
I tried other protons but it keeps happening. I also saw some comments on youtube saying the same thing.

It happens in wow classic but also in turtle wow (vanilla server).

I have first gen 512gb

Here is another report of it happening in FFXIV, it started with update SteamOS 3.5.5. Switching from hardware to software cursor in that game seemed to fix it but i am not sure how to do that in vanilla wow. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/186cctd/huge_lag_spikes_on_steam_deck/
Ok so disabling 'hardware cursor' fixes the issue that was introduced in 3.5.5, this was never an issue before. for vanilla wow you can find it in the video settings.
Can add onto this! As the issue is not only the same in Retail Wow, but random/most games I play that use a cursor.

It's when _most_ system UI appears. Such as home / ... menus, and the system cursor appearing and disappearing (with disappearing being a larger spike. It's consistently the same amount of frames and times as shown in the video)

Issue goes away completely under two known circumstances that I assume "keep the system ui active" for no better way to put that.

Upscaling using any system other than Linear will prevent the frame skip.
If you using plug ins, keeping Decky Recorder enabled will also prevent these frame skips.

Sorry for being super late to this but im having the same issue I have no idea how to fix this at all and I cant find any setting called Hardware cursor in wow or on the steam deck

You could also try a console command, but usually it should be in video settings
I've found a temporary workaround for FFXIV to prevent the FPS drop on a per-session basis, at least if you launch the game via the official launcher.

BEFORE you log in via the launcher and press Play, press the (...) button to go to Quick Settings > Performance > Advanced view > Display filters, and toggle between anything, and then go back to Linear. close the Quick Settings bar and then launch the game.

For some reason (I'd assume gamescope-related) this seems to prevent the issue occurring up until you quit the game. Mouse clicks, and the mouse auto-hiding would no longer produce the issue for me.

Hopefully we get a proper fix soon enough.
Just had this with Star Wars The Old Republic. That game doesn't have hardware cursor options so there is nothing I could do.

I am using Deck OLED with stable branch.

Seems to still be an issue in wow retail/classic. They removed option to not use hardware cursor and command lines do not work for me. In desktop mode it works with no issue, so it is something in steam os
Yep, seems to be something within Gamescope e.g. when playing in Game Mode on the Steam Deck that's causing the FPS tank when a system mouse is in effect.
Can confirm this bug (i.e. short lag spike when cursor disappears or reappears) occurs in any game with KB/M emulation that allows you to right click (hold) and move mouse to pan the camera. I've been able to reproduce this bug in SWTOR and Dragon Age Origins. It is either related to Gamescope or the Wayland (?) window compositor. A possible workaround is to use the built in FSR functionality (i.e. set to lower resolution, enable FSR, stretch to fit screen). This fixes the issue completely (at the cost of a clipped UI depending on the game).

Can confirm this also happens in Rimworld and Pillars of Eternity.

I am also affected by this with Guild Wars. Same behaviour.

Lowering the in game res does work around it, but it obviously comes with a visual quality cost.
That or just playing the game in desktop mode but then you lose access to power settings / frame cap etc.
