Nintendo Switch Pro controller frequently disconnects
The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller disconnects from the Deck all the time, which makes it impossible to use it for some games. This is a known issue for some time now and some people report that the problem was somewhat fixed after turning off the rumble (this doesn't seem to be a universal fix, however).

Possible cause of the problem:

+1, Pro controller is currently completely useless on the Deck, but it was working fine up until around the update that added joycon support.

The rumble thing might not be a solution, though. I had to turn it off just because in some games, like Cult of the Lamb, the rumble would just flip out and stay on constantly.
+1 Please fix it, Valve Team :)
edit: Turning off rumble seems to "fixed" it for now. Thanks for the hint.

Same issue here, it’s really not useable like this.
+1, it also connects as player 2 in a lot of games.
It happens to me too, I have disconnected the vibration and the haptic and the problem continues. I have tried with 2 games and also from the SteamDeck menu, without touching the controller it disconnects randomly (after 4 minutes, after 10). Please, it would be great to be able to play with my controller since I bought the dock for this... :(
Same issue here, turning off rumble in the Steam Deck system controller settings fixed the disconnect issue, but only turning off rumble in-game (Fallout New Vegas) did not work.

I'm seeing this here also with Switch Pro Controller
Same issue, bumping for dev visibility
Doing my due diligence and also reporting this bug to hopefully help the devs sort this out.

I too also have frequent disconnects while using more than one switch pro controller at a time. My current controllers that I use for the steam deck are a Xbox brand Xbox series x controller, original Xbox brand Xbox one controller, two Nintendo brand switch pro controllers, and a friends steam controller. Most controllers I have tried connecting so far is 4 but hope to try up to 8 someday to get a great local game of pummel party in the mix. But I digress.

So the I've been having does not seem to be resolved by disabling rumble, I tried it both in the steam deck controller settings menu and in the In-Game settings menus of games we have played local multiplayer in. The rumble being disabled did however seem to fix the issue when only one switch pro controller is connected. So I think there may be some weird signature issue with the switch pro controllers, but I am not a programmer. In that instance there was a single switch pro controller, one xbox series x controller, and one xbox one controller connected for 3 player unrailed, which ran totally fine with no disconnects in our session. But when we have played with 4 player using two switch pro controllers, one xbox series x controller, and one xbox one controller the controllers will have random disconnects. When I say that I do actually mean it can even cause the xbox controllers to wig out and disconnect. It's super weird. I think it definitely is something to do with the way the switch pro controller works but its odd that it can even disrupt the xbox controllers.

Anywho, I hope this can contribute to the issue being resolved. I am definitely a happy steam deck owner overall. I just want to do what I can to help us all have a better experience with this particular feature. If it ends up getting ironed out and works properly, all of us who have came to this forum, and those who don't even realize this was ever an issue but love local mp are definitely going to have some fun times yelling at friends on the couch again with all to cool indie games and more!
Same here. It constantly disconnects--even with vibration turned off. It especially disconnects more often when using more than one switch pro controller.
I'm also having this issue recently. My pro controller worked fine for a while, but a week or two ago something changed and it is pretty much unusable now; the range is terrible. If I get more than 5 feet away from the steam deck then I get bad input lag, and once I get 10 feet away only half the button presses register, often a full second delayed. Any further and the controller disconnects. This is with the steam deck unobstructed from the controller. The same controller works across the room when paired to my Switch sitting inside the entertainment cabinet.
Piping in to say same issue with official switch controller and also some 3rd party switch controllers made by hori.

We have switch as main console so hence so many switch controllers.

If using one switch controller turning off rumble and haptics fixes the random disconnects. But if more than one controller even disabling it for all of them does the random disconnects.

This means very sadly my children can’t play wobbly life which they were loving due to the constant disconnects.

Please please valve fix this issue!
I seem to have found a solution (at least for desktop mode, haven't messed with gaming mode yet) for keeping a single controller connected properly. In steam settings from desktop, go to controller settings, general settings, disable the 'combine pairs of joycons setting'. haven't had any disconnects since in desktop mode, and perhaps gives some insight on why multiple controllers seems to struggle even more so (perhaps its having some weird confusion with trying to mish-mash the controllers from joycon parts that don't exist? i dont really know) either way hope this helps some folks, sure has helped myself
+1
I to am voicing my issues with my Nintendo switch pro controller
My only solution is wired connection but I hate having a 10ft cord to play on my tv
