Surround sound external display doesn't work (properly)
In game mode no surround mode option works.
In desktopmode I can change the HDMI sound to 5.1, 7.1 or Pro. 5.1. But with 5.1 only FL, FR and center works. With 7.1 (with 5.1 receiver), only FL, FR, RL and RR works. The audio test outputs all channels over FL.

UPDATE: In te latest Beta the issue seems fixed: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/3410929607716145819/ Also the speaker testing in Desktopmode works! Except with the subwoofer channel.

There is still no option to change the sound output in game-mode. But if you change it in desktopmode, you can return to game-mode and as long as you don't unplug you deck, it will stay in 5.1 PCM multichannel. Of course you should change the output in the game accordingly.

The profile that you picked should be remembered if you are using the same setup regardless of plug/unplug. If you were to use a different hub/tv/avr then the profile may change back.

I don't know if this is changed since any update, but surround sound is now working indeed! THX.

Dolby Atmos would be a bridge to far I guess?

Thank you. I enabled it but I'm having some issues. My rear left and right channels are reversed and the center channel and subwoofer is completely missing. I've reported it to Valve support so they are aware of it. I'm hoping they eventually add a 5.1 audio setting in gaming mode while in docked mode similar to the resolution and scaling option that was just added with update 3.3.2.
Hmm that's strange. What receiver do you use and which signal (I guess multi channel pcm?).

I had an Onkyo that reversed the back channel when using multichannel PCM (it was a bug) . DTS and Dolby was working fine. Maybe that could be the issue with you to?

I find it strange. You would say multi channel pcm is always the same 🤔. So be sure that other multi channel pcm sources, work correct.
Did some more testing with the official dock. Seems it's not working 100% flawless. Most of the time (50%) I must replug the cable to change it from stereo to multichannel. Sometimes (5%) I even must return to desktop mode and return to game-mode. (setting stayed @ 5.1 though).

Still glad it works and re-plugging isn't that big of a hassle with the official dock.

multi surround doesn't work for me with the official steam deck dock. I have to go into a desktop mode for it to work.
I've gotten it work in desktop mode and it keeps the 5.1 setting after switching back to game mode, however after a restart it reverts back to stereo output. I haven't tried a simple plug and unplug of the USB cable, but I have been going back to desktop mode which enables it as soon as it switches and then going back to game mode. This is quite a pain in the neck every time I boot my deck I have to go in the desktop mode just to get surround sound. I hope valve addresses this and makes it automatically detect that it is dark and I'll put in 5.1. that would be the simple fix or at least give us a toggle like they did with the auto resolution in the 3.3.2 update.

Yeah, this ain't working for me either. I'm using normal 5.1 (DTS or DOLBY). Please fix this Valve.

My setup is working fine.
Same here. No audio at all on the surround sound setup. Changed and tinkered everything and no luck. Occasionally my setup choices were not saving, which was fun. Perhaps I can jump on the beta and see if that helps.

I wonder what happened. Thanks for confirming that yours works RADAQ. I wonder what happened to the other people?
There is is an official statement / FAQ about surround sound in the Dock Faq: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4C18-08B5-DEC9-3AF4

Audio issues
To enable 5.1/7.1 audio over HDMI/DP: While plugged into the display, go to Desktop mode, click on the speaker icon on the task bar, find the HDMI/DisplayPort slider, click on the 3-line menu and select the number of channels that you want. This will then stay selected when switching back to Gaming Mode.

Didn't work. That used to be how you do that but not anymore.

I'm trying to have this working on a TV connected with a home cinema in ARC.
It's work well for the PS4/Switch/Xbox in this configuration, but the steam deck doesn't.

On desktop mode, we have the ability to test the configuration, and when i go to 5.1, i only got FR and LF working, nothing more, so it's just "stereo"

I will take a look with Pulse Audio to see if something can be done, maybe i've got mapping issue, i'm not 100% sure.
