Steam Deck

Volume buttons do not change headphone volume across the whole OS
i've noticed that, while the volume buttons work for the built in speakers, they can stop working for headphones across the entire OS. it seems to only happen after plugging in a USB-C dock of some kind. if you plug in a usb-c dock headphones are unplugged, any headphones plugged in after this event will have their volume remain constant regardless of the volume level displayed in the UI. i've noticed this in Halo MCC. Not sure if the onset is game specific, but it affects the volume level across steam OS, not just in game. i can max or mute the volume and headphone volume remains the same, no change. restarting the Deck resolve this, but only until that sequence of events that causes this issue happens again. it makes switching between a dock and handheld gaming quite annoying. if i ever want to use headphones after docking, i have to quit the game and restart the Deck EVERY time.

Came to report this same issue. I'm having the same problem playing Persona 3 Reload, so it's not game-specific.

The volume buttons still work and change the value of the volume slider in the UI, but the actual volume of the headphones doesn't change at all.

It only happens with wired headphones, if I connect bluetooth earbuds the volume controls work as expected.

I've only first experienced it like 2 weeks ago and assumed with was some issue with digimon cybersleuth, but it just happened with katamari damacy, though not with any dock usage. In my experience it appears from being in sleep mode for an extended time.
If this happens, try going to Settings -> Audio and change the Output Device to your headphones. The Deck might be trying to change the volume for a connected TV, controller, etc.
