Trackpad usage drops framerate
I like to use the right trackpad as a mouse for shooters and first person games; I love it, super precise and intuitive. Killer feature for me!
However I've noticed that after some time the games start to experience stutters and slowdowns whenever I touch the trackpad.

1. Sometimes it goes well for an hour, other times it just takes mere minutes for this to happen, but it always gets in the way, eventually.
2. The only way to get it back to normal is fully restarting the game.
3. I've seen this while playing Black mesa, Prey (2017) and Mass effect Legendary edition (the last two being run through Lutris).
4. It seems to happen only when the right trackpad is configured to work as a mouse; if I change it to emulate a Joystick, the slowdowns don't trigger anymore (unless I change it back to mouse).
5. These are double-digit, nausea-inducing drops. Frame pacing goes out of the window, too.
6. It only happens when touching the trackpad. It seems like every registered input from it made the Deck go nuts.

Thoughts?

I saw this with Black Mesa too.

However, this started to happen mostly after several hours of play in Xen sooner) so I assumed that this is resource leak in game itself.

I was trying to replicate the issue again so I could get the frametime spikes on video, but it seems robust as hell right now. I know there have been some updates regarding Steam Input and probably some other stability improvements, so it might have been fixed (hopefully?).

In any case I'll keep an eye on this. Maybe it'll happen again and I can provide more information.

I know this is a year old but did you ever figure out what was causing this? It's happening to me when I play older games such as City of Heroes: Homecoming.

Are you running the game in desktop or game mode?

I play in Gaming Mode. I tried playing it in Desktop Mode but for some reason virtual keyboard doesn't appear to work on it.

Not really, but admittedly it's been some time since the last time I used the trackpad in the way I describe in the post.

I suspect it was caused by how Proton+Steam input handle the polling rate of the mouse, as discussed on this thread:
