Steam Deck

Using a physical mouse is impossible in game on deck
Running any game I try on steam deck with a mouse plugged in through a generic dock results in unpredictable behavior in games (and only in games).

The desktop works well and the UI works well too, but any games that use a mouse pointer to control first person view, for example, results in unpredictable and undesired behavior.

Example 1: Control
Expected: Mouse allows to look around as intended
Actual: Mouse is bound inside a box. When hitting a boundary, the game stops registering further input in that direction. The boundary is too small to allow to turn the camera more than about 100 degrees.

Example 2: Metro Exodus
Expected: Mouse allows to look around as intended
Actual: Mouse only sends horizontal signal at infinite DPI. The game is unplayable.

In both cases, and throughout the rest of SteamOS 3, the mouse works perfectly as intended. This might be due to Steam Input overriding things, which I haven't tried to mess with yet. That being said, I think it shouldn't be an issue in the first place.

My mouse is a Logitech G502 RGB using an onboard profile. It is running through a generil KVM, which is plugged into a generic USB-C hub. As I said earlier, it the mouse works perfectly as expected in every scenario except in games...

You can change control mod, game pad/game pad with gyro/mouse and keyboard

i tried various combinations while playing mad max, and the mouse causes my view to spin in circles.

wow. I got it to work using Desktop mode --> launch steam in big picture mode -- Mad max works great with mouse.

Not sure this is required, but for Step Play options, I forced the steam compatibility tool to use proton experimental. I am also using Keyboard(WASD) and Mouse Controls.

Just bought a BT KB+M for semi-portable play and got the same issue.

Wolfenstein New Order - Mouse movement does not move the camera 99% of the time. 1% of the time it will move the camera once then stop again. Mouse buttons work fine as does mouse cursor movement in the Steam menus. In Wolfenstein menu you can see the mouse cursor is locked to the bottom right corner of the screen.

HL2 - Mouse movement is greatly exaggerated resulting in spinning camera or it snapping to max up/down. Works fine in Steam/Game menus. Tried setting raw mode on in game with no difference. Disabled all right trackpad camera controls with no change.

Not tried the desktop Steam but (given feedback I've seen that the issue is fixed there) it seems this is some conflict/issue with SteamDeck mode of Steam. Would be great if this can be resolved without the need for workarounds or config tweaking.

Just tried a new BT mouse i just got (G604) and seems to work flawlessly on desktop at the very least. Not tried in games but it seems functional. Using Beta branch of SteamOS

Any solutions to making the mouse work on gaming mode (not desktop)?

I made a short video outlining my problem. It sounds very similar.

Same issue. I have to switch to decktop mode to play games with mouse and kb. Really sucks as you loose all the benefits from the steamos to enhance games.

Same issue here. Mouse is unusable while a game is running. Works fine in menus.

I am also having the mouse bounding box issue. Tested in Halo Infinite and Tower Unite, both function the exact same. The mouse hits the side of the screen, and doesn't loop. This only happens in gaming mode, desktop mode works fine. But I noticed some games run a bit worse in desktop mode.

Any update on this? I feel that there is a huge diagonal dead zone specifically in the top left corner. Also it seems that the physical mouse favors perfect horizontal movement as if it’s correcting to be perfectly horizontal. I’m having this issue in CS2
