Firefox not opening profile after switching to flatpak version
I tried installing the flatpak version after it became available and it launched a default profile; I pointed firefox to my already existing profile and even after reinstalling it multiple times it seems to either not finding my profile or not recognizing it, resulting in irrecouperable errors.

On windows, I would just attempt running the profile manager but how do I go about fixing this issue on the deck?

You can either install flatseal in discover and give firefox access to your home directory which will cause it to look in the default location or you can copy your profile into the existing profile directory in the flatpak's directory.

flatpaks are installed under /home/deck/.var/app/

Even after deleting EVERYTHING from mozilla under there, after reinstalling the settings weirdly persist.

Is there away to just clean reinstall everything?

I recommend going with Flatseal and giving firefox access to the home directory (All User Files) because this will also fix a bug with having to browse to a download location every time during repeated downloads. Your old profile should be under /home/deck/.mozilla/firefox/, more than likely with a ".default-release" at the end.

If nothing is changing it means you're in the wrong location for whatever profile firefox is loading. Last time I tried just clearing out the profiles, firefox refused to start.

I'd really just like to start from a clean install instead of it remembering old settings in some obscure location, but I'll try flatseal first then.

Ah, I thought you wanted to keep your old profile.

For a clean install: uninstall firefox through discover, delete the /home/deck/.var/app/org.mozilla.firefox and /home/deck/.mozilla folders, then reinstall.

If you don't use flatseal your new profile will be made in the .var mozilla folder, giving firefox access to your home directory will put in the /home/deck/.mozilla directory.

I was using my profile from desktop so I can just copy over without much hassle. I already tried deleting those but for some reason it still remembered settings. It's weird.

I installed flatseal like you suggested and gave it access to the home directory. Then, instead of just adding a new profile I copied the contents of my profile in the currently used profile and relaunched firefox. It works as intended now.

Hopefully this will help folks with a similar problem. Thank you for your time.
