Steam Deck

Steam Deck

External monitors high resolutions not working/showing up
I have had a 3rd party dock[i-tec.pro] work for the last year on the steam deck, I have to admit not flawlessly but for the most part I had no complaints. The only issue that I can admit is that the display would sometimes begin flashing or tearing apart etc. I assumed this was the cable wearing or something as replugging it would just fix it.

Last month, on the 8th of september, the display straight up gave up and would not even receive a signal from the steam deck. Since nothing was working whatsoever, I looked online and found a thread stating that I could reset the graphics drivers by booting it whilst holding VOL - and the (. . .) button, and it worked as they said it would, however the display was not acting right. The steam deck was now capping at 1280x800 via the dock, nothing I did could increase it, not in desktop or in game mode, the option was just not there.

When I got the chance, I had an attempt with my friend's steam deck which had NEVER been docked before, and was NEW by like a month. It had the same issue. Believing that it was the dock, I took my steam deck to my classroom and plugged it in to a 4K screen that had it's own USB C display cable attached to it. This time as it had no dock attached to it, it showed only two options for resolution, a really small number (which I can't recall at the moment), and 4K. While I was able to enable 4K resolution, the screen would go blank, as if the deck was unable to display in 4K. (Once again, I had done this before at the exact same screen and it worked perfectly in the past.)

As of today, I have tried the dock that I have with a laptop and it works perfectly fine, no flickers and as high resolution as possible.

I really don't know what to do and don't even know if it's worth factory resetting as the issue was present on someone else's brand new console. I can also hardly consider getting an official dock as I have no confirmation of whether that will work.

No difference :(
In the first place the steam deck is not recognising the monitors to have a higher resolution, so I don't even see the options to raise it

You could try the method mentioned in this thread:
ttps:/steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/3/3771239049944984767/?tscn=1723112859#c4513255384643105593

You may be able to solve your problem by deleting your old display configurations.

Otherwise, you could try using desktop mode to set your preferred display resolution.

Dump the list of edid.

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/114359/how-to-get-edid-for-a-single-monitor

I usually do trick #3.

https://people.freedesktop.org/~imirkin/edid-decode/

Upload to that website to see what edid is showing in your dock/external monitor.
