Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Left side buttons/trackpad no longer working
As a preface: I have already factory reset, I have completely reflashed firmware, I do not use an SD card, and I have never opened my Steam Deck. Device is not damaged and has never been dropped. It's the 256 gb non-oled version.

recently my Deck updated (I use stable channel) and the entirety of the buttons on the left side of it completely stopped working. The touch screen is still functional and I am able to navigate to the controller settings to test inputs, about half of the buttons do not work - the dpad, left joystick, left menu button, left trackpad, the Steam button, L1, L2, L3, L4, and R2, are non-responsive. Everything else lights up upon checking the input tester.

Worked completely fine before this update was installed. Now it's doing all sorts of weird things, for example I can't adjust the brightness since the slider resets to the lowest position when trying to change it, I have a cursor that appears in game mode. The only button that responds in game mode is the right bumper which takes a screenshot, as if the Steam button is being permanently held down or something.

I already reached out to Valve and they told me it's $125-185 for "repairs" since i'm out of warranty. Lucky me. I wanted to post here in case anyone else is having similar problems and wondering if anyone has a fix or recommendations, because I have no clue what to do about this and I'm pretty frustrated about support's response.

Thanks

I'm also having this problem. Did you find a fix?

No, and when I asked support if they had any suggestions they said "Steam support is unable to provide suggestions about self-repair."

At this point, I have reset my Deck multiple times, and I have also re-flashed firmware on it following this guide. I have also opened it up to see if it was possible that a cable was somehow loose, which turned out to not be the case either, so my only option is to pay Valve or just play with a controller connected permanently which defeats the purpose of having a Deck in the first place. Not gonna lie I'm pretty disappointed

Same thing is happening to me now. They offered a $125 repair option. They also gave me an ifixit link but didn’t tell me what to fix

hey everyone, my deck had an update installed last night and the buttons are now functional again. i have been checking periodically to see if this would fix it self, not sure if they pushed something that addresses the problem or if i just got lucky, but i am able to use it normally again so it may be worth checking out yourself. cheers

Появилась точно такая же проблема, решение в интернете не нашёл. Обновление свежее , видимо всё таки дело не в нем . Буду надеяться что уйдёт само собой

Sorry for the late reply, notifications was off.
yeah new and for some reason, every update that the deck gets, i have to change the default settings to get them to work which is annoying.
