Steamdeck Pre-Cache updates stealing storage
As the title states, the excessive amounts of precache updates have been occupying a large amount of my storage. And on top of that have been impeeding in playability of big titles such as cyberpunk, BG3, and fallout 4 as its constantly trying to reinstall the WHOLE game as a precache while its already taking up space. not only that, it does this at the worst download speeds i have ever experienced with 84 gb planned to take 12 days. and no, none of these are content updates as i keep track of those in anticipation. until this is fixed, i cant trust a single large AAA game on the steamdeck, which is what i got it for

Go into Desktop Mode and disable the feature.

I disabled shader caching in desktop mode and never looked back.

honestly i dont understand it. I know people side with it saying "oh you should want it to download shader caches so your games run faster"...but that shouldn't mean every single time i start up the steamdeck, and if i have the misfortune of having 100 games on my device for it to take forever. And like the gamebreaking issue i had above, how does it help then? a good third of my storage was just shader cache downloads......And outside my few big AAA titles, most of my games on there are arcade-like pixel stylised games mostly under 500mb. Steam on PC has no need to spam me with this, why does their portable pc do so?

anyways. Mahjik came in clutch! Certified Bro
