Steam Deck

Remote Play not working from Windows to Steam Deck
Hello. I think the Steam Deck is a work of pure joy and wonder. But sometimes even the greatest creations have bugs.

I'm running the Steam Beta branch on my Deck, with Stable on my Windows PC/server. The game loads fine on Windows, but the Deck is stuck in a loading spinning Steam logo with a black screen behind it.

Hopefully this helps. I'm honestly not used to using traditional forums for bug reporting, but anything is better than nothing I suppose.

Having the same issue on the latest preview build. It was working fine on Thursday.

Had been using Preview due to a bug Valve has fixed that hasn't been added to Stable yet: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/10429

Same here, not only from Windows.

It is not working from:
- Windows -> Deck
- Linux -> Deck

However it is working from (I only use this for configuration, not to play):
- Deck -> Windows
- Deck -> Linux

I tried applications, Steam Games and Non-Steam games.
None work, all stay on the loading screen.

I can move the mouse on the host machine and see the mouse moving on Deck.
I can also hear the sound on the Deck, but button presses are not sent to the host machine.
Pressing "B" ends the stream.

For what it’s worth I’m having the exact same issue, nothing has fixed it

Same here... Here we go again..

Edit: Remote Play works correctly in Desktop Mode. However when you try to end the session via Steam+Left Dpad (escape), you cannot tap on "Stop Streaming". You must use Steam+R Trackpad to move the mouse cursor over to "Stop Streaming" and click it via R2. Hope this helps someone.

Before this, It was impossible to end remote play with exiting the game. Well you could go into Setting>Remote Play and turn it off but that hard crashes the deck.

It makes me happy that these forums are actually successful in us discussing the issue and temporary workarounds.

I think there are enough people here to catch a developer's eye.

I also just found out about Valve's github page, so I will be moving the discussion over there and creating a bug report. I will post a link here to the github issue, but I won't be online for a bit so I'll do this maybe tomorrow.

Happy gaming everyone!

Getting this too in both Beta and Preview builds. Have not tried Stable.

UPDATE: Switching to the stable branch on Steam Deck resolved the issue.

Same issue here. Windows PC -> Deck. Audio and controls available on Deck but instead of the video stream I get a Steam loading spinner logo.
A day before I had this exact same issue on Arch(btw) -> Deck. Which was the reason I installed Windows…
Tried everything vom dis/enabling nvfbc capture and hardware de/encoding, resolution and so on. Nothing helped. Hardware is roughly speaking AMD CPU and NVIDIA RTX GPU, if that matters

Getting the spinning valve icon, can hear the game, launches on PC black screen background. On Beta and preview build all updates every game. Broken.

Same problem, I'm on the latest beta/preview branch, I was playing RE4 and Remnant II remotely just fine a few weeks ago, I beat RE4, installed RE8 this week and nothing is streaming properly now. I just get audio and the spinning deck symbol. I had VERY consistent settings in and everything worked great in the past, now it's broken =( So an update in the last week or so has boned streaming.

Have you tried Remote Play while in Desktop Mode on your deck? If so, how did it go?
