Drop frame or Lag when mouse click on Game Mode
This situation recently occurred, and my current version of SteamOS is 3.5.7.
I have set my L2 and R2 to correspond to Mouse Left and Right Click, respectively in Final Fantasy XiV.
Whenever I input Mouse Left or Right Click, the game drops frames like Stable 60 to around 35 fps, if I keep continuous input will lead to around 24 or 15 fps.
In desktop mode, the same button mapping has no related issue.

Does this require any relevant settings that I can handle or do I need to wait for an official update to resolve this issue?

Same problem. It has something to do with the display settings that can make the color more vibrant. I just turn that off, it helps but screen starts flickering instead.

I have this same issue when docked. Whenever a mouse cursor is being used, the frames drop to 15fps until it vanishes. When handheld, it might cause a framedrop switching to mouse mode and back, but the constant drop when moving the mouse cursor in mouse mode is seemingly only in docked mode. My first thought was it was FSR related like a similar dock issue but nope.

I can confirm that disabling color management does stop the bug, but instead of stuttering, the screen goes very dark until the mouse disappears.

This issue is related to how FFXIV is receiving mouse input via Proton. Based on research I THINK it may be related to the polling rate of the mouse/trackpad, causing a brief frame rate drop when applying mouse input in-game. The frame drop tends to be more noticeable the lower your current frame was at the time of the input.

The workaround currently would be to go into the System Settings of FFXIV and change the mouse mode to Software-based, however this would naturally incur noise input latency.

I believe the issue may be related to how Proton is handling the polling rate of the mouse/Trackpad and if too high (1000Hz) can introduce this kind of issue.

Finding a proper solution is proving difficult so I'm hoping that Valve can address this issue via a Proton update.

I believe this may be an issue with gamescope specifically, since it only happens in game mode. I've noticed it happening in FFXIV and WoW.

If that's the case, I'm wondering if there's any launch options or parameters that could negate this from happening?

This problem also affects Guild Wars 2 which is another MMO. I'm on the Preview Update channel with SteamOS 3.5.14. I have a 40 FPS limit set in game mode, and FPS drops to 20-28 whenever the left or right mouse click inputs are used to move the camera. The frame drops only occur when moving the camera. Interacting with menus such as items in the inventory doesn't affect FPS. Desktop Mode isn't affected and doesn't have these issues.

A few other details for GW2:
1. The frame drop only happens at the start of the input. My FPS returns to 40 while holding down the mouse clicks.
2. Game Mode hides the mouse cursor after a short period of no movement. This causes the same kind of frame drop when the cursor is hidden.
3. There are smaller frametime jitters while the cursor remains hidden. These jitters disappear while the cursor is visible.

I recorded a short clip to showcase this: https://streamable.com/zx9i6j

The quality isn't the best because of Streamable's compression. The FPS drops are also much more apparent in person than in the video. The beginning shows the frame drops at the start of camera movement. Then I hold down the mouse click and rotate the camera to show that the FPS goes back up to 40. Lastly I repeatedly let Game Mode hide the cursor by not touching the right trackpad, and the end of the video shows the jitters from leaving the cursor hidden.

Here's my example of the issue at present, occurring on FFXIV.

Example: https://youtu.be/kSCNyEQorhs

Watching the video in 60fps will make the issue more apparent.

Notice when the mouse (via Trackpad) is clicked, the frame-rate reported via Gamescope tanks, and is also visible when watching the camera move side-to-side.

I've been facing this same issue with GW2. Only seems to be an issue in Game Mode but is exactly as described above.

It is the same issue with SW:TOR, I'm surprised such a long standing issue has not yet been solved by Valve. It's a known problem since December 2023 or possibly earlier.

This issue is still going on in game mode for gw2. Desktop mode has no frame drops
