Steam Overlay Invisible in Remote Play
I stream games in 4k from my gaming PC to my Deck, running 3.5.5 stable. I noticed that when I use Remote Play I am not able to see the steam overlay when I press the button to open it. I can hear the menu inputs, and my game instance isn't taking inputs anymore (like when the overlay is up) but the overlay isn't visible at all.

This does not happen when I play games installed locally on the deck - just when Remote Play streaming. Any ideas on what's going on here?

Check if Hardware Decoding is off on your deck. If it is, turning it on will fix this issue however the game will be dark. I personally have Hardware decoding off as not seeing the steam or quick access menus is worth being able to see the game while in remote play.

This worked, thank you. But you are right, it does come out dark. That's annoying...wonder if they'll ever fix it.
Appreciate you guys taking the time.

No problem. Unfortunately, this has been an issue for a while now. However prior to 3.5.5 the dark screen issue was easily fixed. With all the issues being posted, especially after the 3.5.5 update, I imagine this issue is very low on the list.

I'm still having this issue as of 12/14/23. I don't want to turn on the hardware encoding due to the aforementioned darkness issue; the overlays are really nice to have, but not worth totally ruining the visual presentation of the game.

I really hope they're working on a fix for one or the other (ideally both) issue(s). Happy to turn on the encoding if that's what the overlays require to work, but only if they fix the discoloration. Likewise, would love for the overlays to work without messing with encoding.

Please and thank you!!
