Battlefield V Freezing on Steam Deck OLED
Hello I purchased Battlefield V for my Steam Deck OLED as it's listed as "playable" but I can't get into any type of game without it freezing immediately, which results in having to forcefully restart the machine. I've tried different compatibility settings and nothing is working. Please advise. Thank you!

Try launching the game in Desktop Mode. I've run across at least one title that I've previously played on my LCD Deck that doesn't launch in Game Mode on the OLED Deck. It does launch and play fine via Desktop Mode.

Hey thanks for the reply! So I've been trying your suggestion and the game launches the little EA "preparing game" window but nothing happens. Is there a trick to get it to launch in Dekstop mode? Thanks again!

I only have Mass Effect Andromeda installed from EA. It does take a bit for the "preparing game" screen but it eventually loads. A few things to check if yours never goes past it:

* Try forcing Proton Experimental
* Try selecting Properties of the game, in the menu select Developer then Delete Proton files
* Lastly, try using ProtonTricks to "repair" the EA Play app in the game/proton folder.

I too am having the same issue on my steam deck Oled despite it working just fine on my original steam deck. Not sure why this doesn’t work on the Oled but i haven’t tried it in desktop mode. After 3-4 reinstalls I got it to play an entire battery life cycle no issue and then re charged my deck and it’s back to the same issue as prior.

Same issue on my end. Works perfectly fine on the LCD version, but it crashes after a minute on the OLED version, regardless of proton version.

Thanks for sharing all this info! I've tried everything listed plus a re-install today and still having the same issue. Thanks again for trying to help.

Hey yall! Good news.. So looks like there’s been some updates - on the Deck OLED try running it in Compatibility mode “Proton Experimental”. You can find this by going to the game/settings/properties/compatibility. I’ve been able to play with no issues. Hope this helps!

I played bf5 without any problems before this day. Aaand tonight it's start crash after 2 min when joining any match... So, after reinstall system and game i'll try to run on Proton Experimental only. But idk - before this game runs on ex ver. of proton on auto - mb some update broke this. Hope its works. Ty.

Had the same issue, limited success with different proton compatibility settings and launching from desktop.
For me it was fully resolved by upgrading to Stream OS 3.6.
