Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Previously played, verified game won't launch after steam deck 3.5 preview update
UPDATE: I fixed it! For anyone unfortunate enough to have a game refuse to launch and tried every fix posted anywhere and can't get it to launch, try finding its compatdata ID and delete its corresponding folder and manifest file in ".local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/"
This seems to be an extremely rare issue to have but I've seen a ton of examples of games not working online and the solution they use was factory reset, so before doing that try this.

After pressing play the steam logo appears then boots me right back to the game page.

I have tried:
- reinstalling onto the ssd and sd card
- tried a bunch of different proton versions including GE
- clearing a ton of space and deleted the shaders to try and reset them
- verified game integrity (many times after trying other fixes)
- reinstalled the beta branch, tried the above steps, then reinstalled the preview branch and repeated steps again

I'm truly at a loss? I played this game a ton on my deck and pc when it first came out and I know it's still playable on deck from watching others on yt. And this isn't and issue effecting previously downloaded games as ratchet and clank is still playing fine and I tried downloading re village which I've never played on deck and it booted just fine. I don't want to resort to factory reset cause I'd like to know what's going on before nuking the system.

I can confirm this works with elden ring. I hit the bug a few weeks after the Steam OS 3.5 update. I was playing the game the last few weeks and hit the bug today. @SargeCQB thanks
