Nintendo Switch Online NES Controller shows up as Joy Con
Hey there!

got my steam deck mostly for Retro Stuff and recently got a NES controller because Steam announced support for Nintendo Classic Controllers (see here: https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/27/23281422/valve-steam-nintendo-classic-controllers-switch-online-nes-snes-n64-sega-genesis)

however, the controller shows up as a Joy Con. I can control the steam UI with the dpad but in games, the dpad just doesn't do anything! I was planning to play shovel knight and the shantae games with this pad :D but nothing is working, I can't get the dpad to run.

Steam support sent me here so feel free to take a look at this :D

I'm having the same issue. The controller is appearing as a joy con in the controller remap UI.

My N64 controller arrived as well now and while steam does accept its inputs, I expected "official support" to mean that the UI could display the controller and give appropriate button mappings 😅the C buttons partly react to the right trigger, the X and Y buttons as well as the start button.

Very messy

Internally they have the same guts, this makes sense.

The controller is correctly labeled as NES Controller (L) or NES Controller (R) in the bluetooth menu, so there should be at least some indication that the controllers aren't typical joycons. I tried to use the key remapping in the controllers menu to get the D-pad working, but it doesn't seem to work when emulating NES games (through RetroArch via Emudeck). I assume it's because the system thinks they are joycons, and joycons don't have D-pads.

Plus why does the dpad work for steams menus but not in games?!
