Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Dragon Age: Inquisition - Steam Deck Controller Not Detected
Dragon Age: Inquisition installed on Steam Deck will not work using gamepad controls. The game supports native controllers through XINPUT I believe, and on my Windows PC an Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS5 DualSense controllers are all detected after switching the control scheme to Gamepad in the settings menu and the game plays beautifully. However on the Steam Deck, after changing the control scheme to Gamepad, the game stops responding because it doesn't recognize the Steam Deck's controller at all. You have to force quit the game and clear proton files in order to regain control via M/KB.

I've also paired the known working controllers from my Windows PC to the Deck and they don't respond in game on the Deck either. There appears to be something wrong with how Steam Deck is passing, or not passing, controller inputs to the game. This has apparently been a long standing issue with DA:I and would love to see it addressed. It is definitely a problem with the Deck and Steam Input, and not with the game itself.

I've tested with Proton 7.0, 8.0-1&2, Proton Experimental, Proton GE, and none of them resolve the problem.

This fix seems to have worked for some people

When setting it to use a controller, the game became unresponsive. Fixed by opening the ProfileOptions_profile file and changing the GstInput.GamePad line to 0 instead of 1. This file is located at HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1222690/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age Inquisition/Save

although when I did it, it allowed me to choose gamepad in the settings, however the controller didn't actually respond. I was then unable to do anything in the game (even press start!) so I had to go back to the config file and set it back to 0.

I'm just sticking to one of the community layouts for the KB/M workaround. seems to be working ok-ish. Just make sure you toggle mouse look on (it's in the key bindings menu right down the botton) - I set it to x then map x to one of my back buttons.

That’s just to reenable mouse and keyboard control after changing to game pad and it becomes unresponsive. Thanks for trying to help though
