Steam Deck
jupiter-hw-support is borked on non-SteamOS distributions
Pls fix, I would like nothing more than to resume using Arch Linux with SteamOS' components for a far less cumbersome and restrictive desktop experience on my Steam Deck. 🙏

  • The bug is an issue with the jupiter-hw-support package from the Jupiter repository.
  • Installing the package on Arch-based systems with the rest of the Jupiter and Holo packages necessary for using SteamOS session with gamescope causes an error at boot preventing the graphical environment from loading.
  • Due to discrepancies between the polkit provided in another Arch-based distribution and the permissions that jupiter-hw-support expects, it is unable to load the systemd unit as the binary shell script that it executes has insufficient permissions to carry out its operation resulting in the systemd unit exiting with an abnormal code.
  • I was able to easily reproduce the following error simply by adding the Jupiter and Holo repositories to the pacman.conf file, syncing the repositories then installing jupiter-hw-support. The Neptune kernel and other packages appear to work fine when installed until jupiter-hw-support is added.
