Audio: Headphone jack, sound output does not switch
Hi everyone, not sure if this is where bugs are reported but I didn't find anywhere else to do so.

OS Ver: 3.4.6
OS Build: 20230313.1

Issue: When plugging in an external sound device (headphones) via the headphone jack, one of the three behaviors is noticed. Connector was making full contact, no debris in or on connector or receptacle. Behaviors are observed while in the menu of Steam OS.

1. No sound from headphones, sound from speakers.
2. No sound from headphones, sound from speakers. Steam OS auto switches to headphone output.
3. No sound from headphones, no sound from speakers. Steam OS auto switches to headphone output

i do, i try to go through all the relevant issues every couple of months to see if i can get a dev response for a proper fix but nothing yet other than closing whatever you're doing, opening desktop, going into audio settings and manually changing over the audio

I'm having the same issue, USB-C headphone, 3.5 mm AUX headphone or HDMI. The audio output does not switch automatically.

I contacted support and they told me to post on here so a dev can see but i've never had any help outside of the workaround for the last year

I had the same issue before. Try fix 1, if that doesn’t work, fix 2 should do the trick.

1. Change the default audio settings on desktop mode. Sometimes the audio settings default is set as the steam deck speakers.

2. If the issue persists, try a factory reset to default settings.

No dice so far, Steam Support had me Reinstall Steam OS which actually fixed the issue! But then Steam OS updated and it didn't work again.

In desk top mode in audio Turn one of the Radeon audios to off it should make them all go off simultaneously then click the default audio as the on with a bunch of ///// and leters between them should look like audio1/audio 2/audio3/ idk i cant remember but its the main speaker just click test to make sure its the right speakers after turning the radeon audio pro to off make sure audio that works is selected and defaulted then go back to steam big screen should work
