Top/Search Bar and Bottom Bar Missing after Wake since update
After waking the steam deck from sleep, the top bar with the search, wifi, profile and bottom bar that has the steam menu button in the bottom left are missing. This wasn’t a problem before the most recent update. There is no fix in stable, beta or preview, and makes the UI much more difficult to use. The problem can be fixed by restarting steam/steam deck, but as soon as the deck goes to sleep and is awoken again, they’re no longer there.

I received my Deck today and after a while I started having the same issue. I tried to figure out why it happens, because it did work initially - the problem for me was because I enabled "Use as Wake Movie" option (Steam > Settings > Customization > Use as Wake Movie). It did not show any Wake Movie but made this bug appear - probably there's something wrong when trying to play the Wake Movie. When i Wake the Deck and the bars are gone, going to the option and turning it off restores the bars without having to restart the whole Deck or Steam.

As a workaround I turned it off for now, the UI seems to work fine now when sleeping and waking it up.

I have the same issue, additionally, I am unable to get into settings, as I can't turn off family view.

Is there a way to get the family view prompt if you can't see the icon?

I had the same issue and here is what worked for me:

In case you are using Animation Changer from Decky Loader, this is from their documentation [github.com]:

Plugin Usage Use the plugin's animations browser to automatically browser and install animations from SteamDeckRepo. For now, only boot animations are available automatically. From the quick access menu, you can switch between animations or enable randomization on boot. Ensure that the Startup Movie is set to deck_startup.web in the Settings Customization tab for the custom animation to take effect.

TLDR: If you use Animation Changer, set Startup Movie (Settings > Customization) to deck_startup.web and leave Use as Wake Movie enabled
