Latest update breaking games on resume
I just downloaded the latest Steam Deck updates and I’ve noticed that whenever I put the system into sleep and then resume a pop up comes up that says: “Resuming: Connecting to Steam”. This pop up seems to take the focus away from all my games and then I literally cannot play a game until I restart. Anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?

yes, same thing started happening today after the latest update. Closing game and relaunching doesn't help. i have to restart the deck.

Thanks for confirming. Hopefully Valve is aware of the issue and working on a patch. That being said if you or anyone else identifies a workaround please reply and let us know. I can see when I bring up the Steam quick menu that the game is running behind it, but I can’t get to that window. It’s almost like I’ve lost focus on the game window and could restore it with an alt + tab on Desktop.

Same issue here. Before putting the deck into sleep mode, clicking the steam button and selecting home seems to prevent the issue. Frustrating.

Same issue with my Deck. It's infuriating. The Steam button works for me but resuming the game from that window still results in a black screen. I've turned off basically every non essential option in the settings menu with no change.

I confirm it is happening for me too. I also confirm the workaround of going into the home screen before the sleep. The game can be resumed on wake after that.

Looks like they have pushed a new patch this morning that fixes things, it fixed all the issues I was having.

Steam Deck Client Update - March 15th
Note: This Steam Deck client update has been re-released to fix the following:
Fixed game beta success/failure and dropdown not updating when opting into a password-protected beta branch
Fixed Big Picture Mode not opening when Steam is set to launch on startup when configured as the default mode
Fixed a regression in ISteamHTTP talking to servers with ALPN TLS extensions but no HTTP/2 support
Fixed an issue with non-Steam game configs not loading properly
Fixed an issue where switching games in the configurator could show data for the previous game after making an edit
Added option to play a Points Shop startup movie on Wake
Fixed an issue resuming a game upon Wake

Same issue here have to shutdown or restart deck to get game to launch and be able to see it also noticing when system in sleep awhile when wake it up you can't see the typical top edge thatsvhows your connected to internet and what games are updating. Again you have to friggin reboot then games will update and those icons then will be visible.

Same here... totally breaks the handheld purpose. I can hear the game's music but no image, if I press the Steam button the game shows for a second and sometimes it crashes, if I reopen it the Steam logo is stuck spinning on the screen...

I think the bug is back. Exactly the behaviour as described by op. Startet a week ago for me.
I am having the same issue. I thought it was a decky loader issue but after wiping it completely and several searches it's a bug that I just have to hope gets fixed soon. The Deck is basically useless in my day-to-day life without the sleep option. Please address this issue, the latest update did nothing,
Tested on the newest update on both stable and beta update channels as of 10/9/2023. No fix yet.

I have found a way to fix this issue as of the current update. In Settings - Customization - Startup Movie, the Use as Wake Movie option seems to be causing the issues. Toggle it off and it should remain working.
