Steam Deck

Steam Deck

SD card unavailable since 8/29. I'm not alone.
Background info:
Steam Deck: 512GB version
micro SD: Samsung PRO Plus A2 512GB version
- I use the standard release

TLDR: on august 29th, my sd card disappeared. i thought it got bricked, but other people have the same problem at the same time. steam update might have bonked our sd cards.

I am one of those people who dual booted Windows 11 on the deck via micro SD card. It had no isues booting up until it flat out stopped showing up in the boot menu since August 29th.

I tried:
- restarting
- booting steam OS
- removing card, shutting down, inserting card
- all of the above in every combinatin possible
nothing.

I could only conclude that my card might have been corrupted or bricked, which makes sense in my case.
A friend of mine with the same setup also lost their card on that same day. fishy.
There's no way our cards would just die at the same time, so it might be a problem caused by an update.

I found some other posts talking about the same thing happening to their cards and it's not just a Windows issue.

I just wanted to write this for people who also experience the same issues with their card since it was really hard to find other people talking about it.

If you have any updates or solutions to this matter, please add to this since i have no clue what I'm doing.

Hopefully Steam can address this eventually

We are only using one SD card, and it lives in our Deck permanently. As of this week, the Deck sometimes treats the SD as if it's not there, but simply removing and reinserting it fixes the issue.

I have the same issue, been fine for the past year now suddenly its not visible on boot. If I go into desktop mode I can see it fine, unplugging and plugging it in remounts it most times in game mode, but not had to do this before. I just formatted it and redownloaded a bunch of games before I went looking and saw this thread but it hasn't helped. Unplugging and plugging it back in or running from desktop mode seems to be the "best" solution right now. Hopefully its a bug that can be addressed. My sd card is structured:

This also happened to me. Until it is fixed follow the following steps as a workaround:

1. Power off steam deck
2. Extract the sd card
3. Boot steamdeck without sd card
4. While in game mode, insert the game card

I did this and it still doesn't show up in the boot menu.
