Cant name my character in elden ring

the interface that used to show up when naming a character isnt there anymore. when you try to name a character now, the games button icons disappear and you get locked into the character creation menu with no way of going back in game or to the main menu though pressing the steam button once seems to fix that for me. you can still pull up the keyboard by holding the steam button and x but that does absolutely nothing in game. this bug makes it so that you cant make a new character at all so its absolutely crucial that it gets fixed soon or the game stays unplayable for new players.

saw a comment in another thread where a guy tried uninstalling and then reinstalling elden ring specifically and apparently that fixed the issue for him. i havent tried doing that just yet but i thought id put that out there.

just reinstalled the game. didnt fix anything :/

oh, glad i could save you some time. im hopeful that its fixed soon since its happening across so many games not just elden ring. i was just planning on going back to ds2 too... oh well lol.

Just curious, I don't have Elden Ring myself, but have you tried launching it in Desktop Mode to see if you can use the keyboard?

Just tried doing that and I still cant type anything. though i noticed that the bar symbol that shows up when youre typing was blinking as if the game was expecting me to type when it didnt do that while in game mode.

same issues for me in euro and american truck sim. I can't join any convoys that require a password nor edit my profile.

Can you guys please file a bug report? remember this is NOT elden ring specific but the OSK not activating in game to "A" or giving inputs when manually activated in game.

I think this is why I can’t save Rocket League replays anymore, the prompt to name them never comes up so I can’t save them.

good news, the bug was fixed. just switch to the beta channel and everything should be good to go.
