Apple Studio Display
So does anyone have the steam deck game mode working on the Apple studio display? I’ve tried different cables. I’ve tried different resolutions but still the display just flashes.

Yeah, I’ve just bought Studio Display and tested it with the Steam Deck and the cable provided with the display. Same for me - the screen only flashes. I don’t know if that’s something that could be fixed on the software layer (but seems like it could, as I’ve seen some videos that Studio Display works with the Steam Deck without any additional connectors and a post that one of the recent updates broke it). It would be perfect if Steam Deck supported Thunderbolt, with just the single port on a console itself it looks like it’s built exactly for this kind of connection.

I have the same issue. But it was fixed now. It might be caused by the cable not capable of pushing native 5k resolution to ASD. You can try USB4 cable or lower the display resolution.

The screen resolution config file is under /home/deck/.local/share/kscreen/ change ASD's resolution to 4k to 1080p in the config file.

Although the OS provided safe resolution mode. But ASD doesn't support 1280*800.

That works! But only for desktop mode, no luck for gaming mode, probably for the same reason of hardcoded resolution not supported by the ASD.

For any of you who wants to modify the config - they have UUIDs as names so you just have to find the right one. Note that on top of the config there’s always SD’s built-in display config, then below you can find next value of external monitor. In my case ASD was named DisplayPort-0, but I recognised it by the refresh rate and resolution. Changed it to 1080p and it started working. Then in settings you can change to even higher resolutions, I stayed with 2560x1440.
