SteamOS 3.4 Beta still broken Xbox Series X Elite 2 Core controller not detected for non-Steam games in Game mode - Prism Launcher with Minecraft Midnight Controls and Steam Input

I still have to reorder my Xbox Series X Elite 2 Core white version controller to have it get detected in non-Steam games as Gamepad. Apparent when using Prism Launcher running Minecraft: Java Edition with MidnightControls. Steam Virtual Input is only seen when the Xbox controller is controller #2. The problem started happening after the initial release of SteamOS 3.4 and hasn’t been fixed even in Thursday’s beta.
