8BitDo Pro 2 controller stops working on reconnect in Switch mode
When the controller is in Switch mode, I can connect the controller to my Steam Deck and everything works at first, but any time I reconnect it, both the controller and the Steam Deck controls stop working entirely until I disconnect it. The controller seems to work as expected in X-input mode, but doesn't support Gyro. If I remove the controller and pair it again, it will work until disconnected and reconnected.

I can verify this.

I have the exact same issue with an 8BitDo SN30 Pro+.

Same issue, any plans to fix this or workarounds?

Same issue here with an 8BitDo SN30 Pro+!

Same issue here with my 8BitDo SN30 Pro+. Works great until the controller goes to sleep.

I suspect the same is true of the actual Nintendo Switch pro controller, can anybody confirm?

I have the same issue with my 8bitdo Pro 2 controller.

I just tried connecting my Nintendo Pro Controller.

1: Connecting the Nintendo Pro Controller and then putting the Steam Deck to sleep mode, and then waking it up didn’t create the same issue as on the 8bitdo Pro 2 Controller.

2: Restarting the Steam Deck didn’t create the issue. I was able to wake up the Nintendo Pro Controller and use it as normal.

It seems to be an 8bitdo Controller issue.

So sad. I just ordered the 8bitdo Ultimate Controller :/ Maybe it’s better to cancel it.

Can confirm the same issue happens with 8bitdo SN30 Pro+. Old Big Picture mode recognizes the controller as "Unknown controller" which keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

Ah interesting, so maybe an 8BitDo firmware issue vs Steam Deck. I'll link them this thread

Great idea @some_dude

Gonna do the same. Would be great if we could inform them and hopefully get a firmware update soon.

Yup, I’m also having issues with the pro 2. Also can’t seem to assign the underside buttons to anything unless I map it in full keyboard mode… :(

8BitDo responded with this, very disappointing :( Hopefully they add support later given the huge number of steam deck sales:

Howdy. Switch mode is not compatible with other platforms. We will feed back your suggestion/requirement to our team. Have a nice day.

Eh, I'm really disappointed - I picked up two 8BitDo controllers only to learn that the built in gyro doesn't work on Steam Deck (it works in desktop mode in switch input which is buggy as hell anyway).

I’m having this issue even with X-Input mode. The controlled doesn’t work when reconnected after putting the Deck to sleep

Hey everyone. Just a quick update.

The 8bitdo ultímate controller works flawlessly in Bluetooth/switch mode on the steam deck. It has support for all the buttons, as well as gyro. No issues with reconnecting the controller after restarting the steam deck.

As expected, the 2.4ghz dongle thingy doesn’t work at all on the deck. Controller input is ignored.

Not sure if they patched something g or if the issue simply doesn’t exist for the ultimate, but I’m relieved to say the least.
