I am also getting the same under preview. Is there a fix?

I launched it from desktop mode

I joined the preview channel so I could try all the latest and greatest. Anyhow for whatever reason the preview mode broke Horizon 5 and it would only show a black screen with audio in the background. Anyhow after some troubleshooting it turns out to be due to the preview update mode. So I reverted back to stable and now all works great again. However in desktop mode I can't access the kde settings it throws up failed to load errors. I have searched online but not found a fix that worked. Anyone experienced this or knows how to sort it.?

Yep, this has been broken since 3.4 first preview, working in desktop mode is news to me, and useful to know that not completely broken.

I just got the same issue with the latest release of steam os. Is there any news regarding a fix for this?

Plug in a keyboard and ALT+Enter (regardless of gamemode or desktop) should fix the problem

Alt + Enter will refocus Forza 5 after you start hearing audio in Game Mode, making it playable once more. This can be mapped to the L4 + L5 buttons. Experimental also seem to run more stable in Forza 5, for me anyway. Forza 4 works in Game Mode, when Fullscreen is disabled. This can be done in Desktop Mode.

I had same thing. Bought for holidays and all you can hear us sound. Preview, stable, doesnt matter still black screen. Then i feared i bricked my steam deck. Everything went black imcluding home screen. Got lucky and got it turned off and back up running but definetly is not “playable”. Debating asking for a refund.

tnx for the desktop-tip. Brand new Deck, fh5 first game on it. Thought there is a problem
I've found the solution on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3SPDncluvA
Works perfectly, but you will need to do the same procedure after each lunch of the game, anyway it is better than nothing)

Could you write how to solve this problem? The video is not my native language and it's hard for me to understand what he was doing.

thank you very much for sharing the video

Lunch the game (you'll hear the sound but will have a black screen).
Press Steam button.
In the pop-up menu choose Forza - Control settings - Go to controller settings (press A) - Activate buttons on the back of the console and adjust 2 of them for ALT and ENTER.
Go back to the game and press these buttons.
The whole idea of this method is to press ALT+ENTER when you see a black screen and you can play the game.
