Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Wifi error "Wireless Interface (wlan0) No secrets were provided"
Just got my Steam Deck 3 days ago. First day it worked fine, could connect to wifi just fine. Today it wouldn't connect. After some finagling, I got it to connect to my 2.4GHz band, but the 5GHz band still immediately drops when I try to connect. In desktop mode, it pops up a window that says "Wireless Interface (wlan0) No secrets were provided".

I've tried hard rebooting, disabling Wifi Power Saving, resetting my router, still does not work.

I have this problem as well. It is sporadic at best as some days it just auto connects, but most times, it doesn't. Very annoying for a brand new deck I've had for one week.

Add your names and info to this list - it's where we're keeping the wifi bugs for now. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/1/3186864498794889745/

Check the thread for workarounds such as using the developer tools to change the energy mode. Note, Valve is aware of this issue.

If you do lose Wi-Fi, for some the fastest way to reconnect is to enter Desktop mode.

I also get this, sometimes on the 2.4 ghz, sometimes the 5, sometimes both and sometimes neither. I hate it

Same problem here, even down to being able to connect for the first couple days then never again. Been searching for a fix but nothing

I'm having this problem as well, after having problems with eduroam, I've put in commands from a reddit post that should allow the wifi connection, but now it's giving me the wlan0 error message, any help would be greatly appreciated

right click wifi icon > Configure network connections
Select your wifi > Wifi Security > Make sure [Security] field is set to 'WPA3 Personal'

The wireless card in the steam deck is terrible, and clearly no one tested it on more complex networks, this error and the resulting rebooting required are my only major complaints about the steam deck.

It happened 10+ times a day for me from launch until i fixed it by re-configuring my network.

I have 3 routers, each of which has 2.4g and 5g, and i had them all using one SSID foir boith 2.4 and 5g (wlanhome). When the deck tried to switch between them as there was a stronger signal it would work occasionally and mostly fail miserably.

For me the solution was to split my routers and networks to separate names, so i have wlanone24, wlanone5g, wlantwo24 etc.. havent had the issue since.

Everyone here should take a look at the new instructions a Valve developer has posted on the other main thread - it might help...

See that thread for more updates from the devs.

Please enable WiFi Power Management (as the fixes are related to this mode) and try connecting to 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks during testing. Also note that Main OS could have other issues that are currently being worked on, so please back up your data before switching to Main OS.

Instructions:
• Enable Developer Mode if you have not yet (Settings -> System -> Enable Developer Mode)
• Show Advanced Update Channels (Settings -> Developer -> Show Advanced Update Channels - toggle to On)
• Enable WiFi Power Management (Settings -> Developer -> Enable WiFi Power Management). System will reboot if you just toggled to Enable this setting.
• Switch to Main OS Update Channel (Settings -> System -> OS Update Channel - select Main). The system will apply the SW updates and reboot the system.

Please go ahead and use as normal and report back on WiFi disconnections with this OS version.

Already posted to the main thread Bee posted above, but re-posting here, since that thread was about 5Ghz and/or Wifi6, but my problem happened on a 2.4GHz-only (N300, Wifi4) router.
---
Installed a new cheap WAP (D-Link R04 in Extender mode). It was working for iOS/Android/macOS devices, but Steam Deck wasn't connecting (Game mode looped password prompt; Desktop mode notification '(wlan0) No secrets were provided' ).
When I changed the authentication type to WPA2-Personal, it started working.

I followed this and after the update I hit reboot and now it won't go past the logo, please Help.

ah yes! it's just the same for me....
so infuriating, been seaeching around about the resolve, all I found is just "try to reconnect the wifi" "try different bands" "try to do something about the ssid"..
all of it sums up like there's something wrong about the wifi, no! I've tried all of above including going to developer mode.
And I tried connect to my phone's data hotspot, and guess what? it's just appear the same!
I had to reconnect and reconnect again. And you know what happens once it's connected? it doesn't connect to steam server. I had to go to desktop mode and go back to steam deck mode to somehow "force" it to connect to the steam server. annoying af!
Hope valve find the solution soon.
