Update: I rebooted, and it got stuck for a bit where the sound okayed but the screen was black. After a bit though, I plugged the dock in, and it seems to be working

My ethernet port is reporting as 100M, is that normal?

Should be 1000. My ethernet only works when ac adapter unplugged, when plugged it stops working. I heard of other users with the same problem.

This made me go back and check my settings and after some testing and checking my router, it appears that I had a misconfiguration that was affecting just the Steam Deck. Fixed now, and it's reporting 1000. I also have the AC adapter plugged in, still works.

Note: In my specific case I have VLANs which may not apply to your setup.

  1. Allow a range of IP addresses to use UPnP and open NAT for them
  2. Make sure Deck is using DHCP/automatic address assignment
  3. (optional) Add a MAC address filter to assign the same IP to Deck every time
  4. Ensure that Deck is assigned an IP from the correct range
  5. Allow gaming subnet access out
  6. Enable STUN configuration in firewall

My recommendation would be to block UPnP (unless you want your printer to talk about PewDiePie all day) except for devices you specifically add to an ACL, such as your Steam Deck or a Nintendo Switch.

Hopefully this wasn't too technical.

Since the release date - everything was great but since Nov 2022, Wired connection does not work through the doc station anymore. I tried literally everything but it does not work, just the wifi... :(

Same here, no ethernet at all.

Have you tried the instructions I posted above?

Ethernet port isn't working. I've used the dock 3 or 4 times.... I need a replacement or refund it clearly came defective. I just used wifi at first but when I tried to dock it to my TV and plug in my ethernet. Nothing. Tried resetting the modem and the router multiple times. Played with some settings. Nothing Is working and that was the very first time using the dock I tried to use ethernet and it didn't work so it had to have come shipped that way. In my opinion the dock should come with atleast the most expensive version, but that aside. Paying for a dock that out of the box dramatically lowers the way your able to experience gaming is unacceptable. A main reason for the dock was a faster connection so only being able to use wifi on something I specifically bought to have the option to be hard wired in. And it showed up broken. I love steam. I got the valve index I've played and own alot of games so this ball drop that alot of people are seemingly having also is not what I've come to expect from steam product integrity. Maybe it was a bad batch and they didn't know or Even they had to rush them out of manufacturing quicker than they needed but regardless this is an expensive piece of equipment to alot of people and the dock missing a key advertising and crucial component working wide scale needs to come with some sort of update if it's a os problem or give people with effected docks the opportunity to get it replaced with a working one for free or a refund. It's late and I'm tired/frustrated so I apologize for all the run on and such I was typing quickly. We can't let them think this is ok. We were falsely advertised to. The port they said works doesn't and if we allow that to be an okay presentment other companies will follow suite. If it's not ready, don't release it.

I'm late to the post but I recently bought a steamdeck and I was having the same issue. The only thing I did was unplugged router from the docking station for a day the next day plugged in and it was working just fine. I'm not sure what causes this to happen but this is what work for me.

Yeah, my steam deck dock's Ethernet port isn't working. I've tried changing to new cables, recently bought a new router and tried swapping ports around with no result. I've tried bios resetting the deck and everything to no usable Ethernet result. Couldn't even tweak the port it acknowledges as connected no matter how the steam deck is connected power / dock wiseb in desktop mode. I'm thinking my dock could have a problem itself at this point but dunno if I'm missing anything.
