This also happens after I did a Factory Reset to see if it was just something I messed up. Nope, even after a Factory Reset, the networking issue persists
I added the Quad9 DNS address to my connection's IPv4 properties : 9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112
And now all of my browsers are working correctly. I went ahead and set up my router to also use those IP addresses, and at least for now, everything seems fine
only had my SD about a week; never got around to trying desktop mode until after 3.03 update, therefore never got a chance to test in previous build.
ok so after many wasted hours, i've never ONCE succeeded at pulling up a proper web page w firefox (or brave). but, the Steam gaming mode works - i think - tho watching help on YouTube everyone else's SD clearly runs way faster than mine (i have the 512gb) i.e. every task in gaming mode = dial up internet circa 2000's on the pos windows XP thicc chonk 4x3 CRT
granted, games play fine once they're running - just the time it takes no way seems appropriate in 2022, let alone my iPhone 3Gs circa 2009
excessive verbose cringe aside: after many failed attempts in desktop mode, giving up on Heroic/my Epic/GOG library or EmuDeck, my war of attrition for the fun Linux tweaking was lost. after some copium that gaming mode was good enough, a few days of clunky, slow, and cumbersome loading times/screens commenced, where i often just resorted to streaming remote play from my PC since i never leave my room anyway (remote play works great btw).
then tonight happened: attempting Jedi Fallen Order on the deck; u already know where this is going: the Origin Games Launcher.
like some 50 shades ♥♥♥♥ i'm back in desktop mode for more PAIN to install that: déjà vu Epic/GOG etc the web page (Firefox or Brave) doesnt load; only spinny wheel of death. strangely, the google search page loads normally, allowing me to search for the link, producing a typical page of search results - fairly quickly, i might ad, albeit still slow. checking the ul/dl speeds of my wifi connection while spinny wheel on the Deck - its freaking CRAWLING at pre-.com bubble pre-Cambrian dial up speed in my high school library - i'm not talking kbps - no, bro - i'm talking bps. as in freaking byte(s?)-sans-kilo per second (on wifi/ethernet which otherwise blazes on multiple high-use desktop machines (gaming PC, iMac, as well as handful of iphones and smart TV's, often simultaneously - point being, no other device of any kind despite heavy traffic ever has issues in this regard.
at this point i owe you a huge apology if you made it this far into my whiny cringe-barf - irritated af as i am atm, this was all just catharsis w no concern for the time you wasted witnessing my meltdown
...now (before anyone asks me to) i'll actually read this thread for the (hopefully) likely solution already posted here. and if it makes u feel any better, i cant get this time back either - we're in this ♥♥♥♥ together now dog
PS grim Steam Deck experience aside, i'll still go on record that i freaking love this thing - but w most of my adult life living with various now ex-gf's is prob evidence i'm a glutton for punishment....but my new SD talks A LOT less than my any of ex's ever did, so glass half full for sure
tx Rob
I’m still running into the issue of wifi networks periodically being forgotten or no longer connecting, resulting in needing to forget the network and re enter credentials and DNS information.
EDIT:
I added the IP address manually with 8.8.8.8 and 9.9.9.9 as my DNS. Now I am able to get stuff to come up. Whatever the Deck was doing automatically with the wifi connection was not working correctly. I can confirm that my other deck that works was set up automatically.
